Rules Is "Like"ing contest entries OK?

I feel like a lot of designers put a lot of hard work in in the Contests forum. Just entering (with a valid attempt) is worth a like in my opinion.

But if I like everyone that's entered so far, is that considered spam? I really just want to let designers know I appreciate their effort, even if it's not in a contest that I created.

Besides, I feel like it kind of casts a vote for the OP if I'm liking my favorite entries in their contest.

If you gave a like for everyone who entered every contest on DP that would be excessive. (Or just going through and giving likes to everyone in a particular thread) Giving a like for a particular entry you like would be fine. Just use common sense.

Right, but is it ok to give likes for entries that I don't like? In my contest I've had a few that I really don't like, but I do strongly appreciate that they put their time and effort into trying to please me (and in their case with no monetary reward at the end!)

I would probably just post in the thread actually thanking people for participating using real words. If I were making the decision I would not allow people to just like everyone who participated in a contest.

Although I do agree with you that they should be thanked for their participation. Some of the people running contests here seem like real assholes. Especially the ones who run one to get a logo or design not for themselves but for some client - where they are 'using' the submissions, trying to pass along 3rd party comments, and then won't even pay when their client doesn't end up liking anything. I would give negative rep for that shit if I could.

It is a judgment call. I would not report what you did, but probably would if you had given out like 20 likes in a single thread. I was really responding to the OP's suggestion that they wanted to like everyone participating in a contest, even ones they have nothing to do with. Liking a handful of contributors to your own contest is not the same as just going along liking everyone just because they entered some contest.

Right, and I wouldn't do that. Just for people who put out a sincere effort, especially ones that I like.

Probably not a good idea to start liking things you don't like and using it as a currency. If you want to thank them, give them $5 or something. Or just tell them thanks.

No, was referring to someone saying they are "Liking" the entries they don't actually like, but using it as a way to say thanks for the effort.

It's not exactly that I don't like it; it's more like I don't like it for my specific project. I hope the clarifies a little.

Save your likes for those you really like. It will make them feel more special. :)
