    Hey Eveyrone,
My name's Herc and I'm brand new to Digital Point. Looks like an AMAZING place to be! I want to share an inspirational SEO story for my first post.

I started my SEO journey well over a year ago, and I brought my girlfriend along for the ride. We probably built around 20 blogs now with varying degrees of success in terms of ranking and traffic. But here's the THING...

Each blog that we built we were learning something, even if we didn't know it. Learning about picking the right keyword, or learning about ON PAGE SEO, or learning about tweaking settings, or learning about back linking. Each failure was really a lesson!

We ended up taking a looooong break from this whole thing because it was becoming frustrating to fail time and time again.

But I found some great inspiration in a forum community in the Success Stories section and I got back on the horse, and then had an amazing break through that has completely renewed my energy and faith.

So now I'm here to share my break through (even tho like I said, it might be to early to celebrate)

    My Breakthrough
My major major breakthrough actually came in the form of doing better keyword research. It's obviously so important to pick the right keyword, and it was in HOW I FOUND my keywords that my break through came.

I don't want to fully reveal my strategy yet, but I'll say that I use SE Cockpit and I search using the Google Suggest Synonyms. I'll put in my 1 or 2 term niche keyword, and let them do the A-Z and 1-9 suggestions. Then I set filters for:

    - domains available
    - 1000 + searches a mont
    - less than 40 competition for 1-3 Spot on Google.

When I started searching differently like this I started finding TONS of domain names that are available.

I found a keyword with the DOT COM available, and 9900 searches a month.

I checked competition in both SE Cockpit and Market Samurai. I still SUCK at determining if I can rank using these two tools, but I'm sure I'll eventually get 'the feel'.

I registered the domain on Jan 23, 2013 and put up 2 posts and got 2 backlinks. One from a PR4 and one from a PR2 domain that I own.

8 days later, I'm #7 in Google and traffic has already started coming in!

I've since then used my keyword research method to find and register 4 more domains and mine and my girlfriends excitement level is through the roof!!!

I know that domains bounce around in the SERPS, but finding it at #7 was such a huge relief for me and it got me back to work trying again, and for that I'm thankful!

I hope I can give you guys more updates very soon on this and my other domains!

Now a month later, I'm #1 on Google and I haven't even touched the blog, and I'm getting more and more traffic every day!

Anyways, I wanted to share, and I hope you all keep your faith in the beast of SEO!

Can you elaborate more on this? What's considered competition?

Yes sure. I mean I set the filter on the Google 1-3 column to less than 40. That bar indicates how hard it is to rank in the 1-3 position for your keyword. So I keep it under 40!

It might be to early to celebrate (hope it's not though)
Traffic fluctuations are so volatile. A relatively new site can rank much higher during the first months and then sink into the SERPs
As said above, hope this won't happen to you.
    Cheers and congrats!
    Keep on working!

Traffic, I'm now receiving over 100 hits per day every single day. I don't think any Page Rank was transferred to my domain, but I wasn't focused on getting Page Rank. I was focused on getting to #1, and getting traffic and I've done that. I have taken over #1 spot.
