How Can A Domain Registered 2 Days Ago Have A PR3?

Hey guys I'm a little baffled at how one of my domains gained a PR3 in just 2 days after I registered it without performing any seo.

It was registered back at the end of January and I noticed it's PR go from 0 to 3. I thought at first it was because I bookmarked it with StumbleUpon but then I realized that I did that with everyone of my other sites and their PR didn't change so I eliminated that possibility.

I then checked alexa and found there was a backlink to BBB, but when I went to the url listed, my domain was nowhere to be found on the page.

It's been 2 months now since I registered it and surprisingly my domain has only dropped to a PR2. I want to think that my consistent efforts for updating with fresh content has something to do with it but don't know why it would lose rank.

I would really just like to understand how Page rank works now after Panda and Penguin. I know quality of backlinks, domain age, and relevancy of all of that and other factors determine PR but just thought this particular situation was a little out of the ordinary.

Any ideas would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey there, it's a huge possibility that the domain name your registered had a history in the past. Even though you created the name, most likely someone had it in the past & it eventually dropped. So google still has record as if you've created the domain long time ago. Does that make sense?

Coloma21 is most likely correct. Have you done a search on the domain/keywords? Are you receiving any type of traffic? If you are then you might of found a half way decent domain. Did you use a catching service?

Content and PR have zero correlation, PR is soley garnered and lost through link juice that is passed from follow links to your domain name.

No I didn't use any type of catching service. I just went to namecheap and registered it.

I thought once a domain was dropped it lost all pagerank. Is that not the case anymore?

Of course, it was a dropped domain name, then it was registered again because of PR....

This gives benefit of pr too, but not sure, some domain lose pr in few days as well, you have to check if it is real pr or fake pr.

Keep in mind I manually registered this domain and it had no PR until the second day. I also did not create any backlinks at that time.

Don't get me wrong, I'm more than happy that it has PR but I would like to know exactly why this happened so that the next time I register a domain I can get the same results.

I just answered a similar thread but the other way around.
If this is a dropped domain then you are enjoying it's old PR. Technically, when you are getting the domain you won't see the PR until you set the NS.
If this is the case you will probably lose the PR as soon as you start writing some content and making your own backlinks.
I'd suggest checking the domain history to know what was used for. Maybe you find a profitable niche and the path will be much easier having some backlinks spread all over.
    Hope it helps

You can use web-archieve to discover domain's history.
