It seems to me we're just about due for another major Google algorithm update, it's been long enough since the EMD update... But regardless of what they're working on behind the scenes, I just want to emphasize that this whole ranking-in-google game isn't as tricky as some people think. It seems like everyone is looking for the 4-day fix, where you can blast a bunch of back links to your site, and everything will be fine, you'll rank and you'll bank. You know who's really reaping the rewards, long term? People who put in the work and do things slowly and steady, naturally, getting REAL links. Think of the tortoise and the hare, that applies to SEO as well. So if you want to be update proof, stop trying to hard and just focus on building real, quality, authoritative websites. Once you've been around the block a few times and have gotten ranked naturally, it's not a bad idea to look at automating certain aspects, but all of these people with xrumer and scrapebox blasts 24/7 are juts wasting their time IMO. If you're having trouble with your sites, just go back to basics... - Clean, responsive design - Quality, interesting content that's tailored to your niche - NATURAL, relevant backlinks. (For most KWs in the 1000-3000 range, I usually only need 1-3 good backlinks to make a mark.) - Tracking so you can know where your visitors are coming from, and where to focus. I use GetClicky and Serpfox, but there are countless options, many of them are free. The data I get is well worth the $50 or so per month, though. One final point is that I'd love to see more internet marketers treating this like a business, and businesses have expenses, that doesn't mean you should be wasting your money on nonsense wso's or whatever, but you should certainly be investing in tools that can add value to your business (Like tracking, not newbie xrumer blasts that will do more harm than good!) Hopefully some of this info will resonate. If I've explained anything poorly, or if you disagree, I'd love to hear it!!!
Completely agree, I've never placed a single backlink myself anywhere but instead made sure my sites contained stuff people would like and make it as easy as possible for people to find using subtle, on-site SEO tactics. In 6 months I have 150 backlinks (according to Alexa), all gained from other webmasters and all natural. Quality and patience is the name of the game now.
Very true my friend, thanks for sharing that, it's certainly the best long-term strategy. Sure, you can pop up some "pump and dump" sites, rank for a few weeks, bank a bit, rinse and repeat.. But that's not really my style, I prefer to build long-term online properties that won't be effected by any updates, or at least not in any negative ways!
These tips are helpful, actually, everyone knows about them, but what is important is often forgotten. If it's not about forgetfulness that comes here laziness. Not everyone has leguminous patience to gain natural links.
I see it exactly the same argius, I want the security of a well established site, sites I hope to make good money from consistently, it would be horrible to wake up one day and find your site dropped off Google. Based on the constant link spam comments my sites get I don't think everybody has caught on yet prawyy lol
Yeah, no, a lot of people are still really missing the point. And don't get me wrong, the short sighted stuff - if you actually know what you're doing and do it effectively, you can have some good days but ultimately... as history has shown... easy come, easy go. I'm glad you guys liked this post
