GOP given historically low ratings; out of touch, extreme, w/ principals

I found this very recent Pew Research Center Poll to be fascinating. The GOP is seeing record overall low ratings as a result of Pew's recent poll on questions concerning the parties: http://www.people-press.org/2013/02/26/gop-seen-as-principled-but-out-of-touch-and-too-extreme/

The research uncovered a lot of unhappy criticisms focused more intensely on the GOP then Dems and by a widening margin.

Characterized as Out of Touch, Extreme, Not likely to change, not looking out for the country's future. Those are severe characterizations.

The GOP was also described as principaled. hmmm...yeah I'd buy into that. Their one principal in my book is to look out for the best interests of the very wealthy and no matter what they never vary from that principal.

The following graph is pretty interesting. While overall perspective on the political parties has dropped for both Dems and the GOP over the last decade plus...its nosedived for the GOP: pew research poll.png

Long term the public keeps looking at the GOP in ever more negative ways.

The public also watches shows like "Lizard Lick Towing" and "Operation: Repo" more in one day than they watch political news in a year. I love how democrats are in charge, yet they continue to blame republicans for everything. It's about time Obama steps up to the plate and fixes this mess.

Congratulations to the Democrats? Celebrate that they are slightly less shitty than the Republicans? lol

Might as well be doing a taste test of dog poop so someone can brag their dog's poop tastes slightly better than their neighbors. lol

@R2D2: If you live inside the cocoon of teaparty world I guess you make comments about blame as the result of a national poll. Nobody was blaming anyone. People were expressing their opinions. I suppose its hard to figure that out when you are inside the cocoon.

@grpaul: If you are so inflamed by hate that no matter what occurs anywhere you blame it on liberals...then you ought to pick your head up out of the sand and look around you. People inside the GOP are raising big bucks and going after candidates to defeat the teaparty extremists in primaries. You'll probably miss it though. Real life doesn't penetrate the teaparty cocoon.

hey gr: I guess stuff like what you showed above is pretty funny in the tea party cocoon. Do you ever visit the rest of the world with the majority of the population? If you do why don't you ask them why they think the GOP is extremist, out of touch, and not interested in the best interests of the nation.

Well, like I implied, the majority of the nation can't name the three branches of government, let alone have a valid political opinion. The main stream media helps paint the GOP as extreme, and that's probably where people get this idea. We all live under some sort of cocoon. You just happen to be in the opposite one.

the majority of people in the US look at the GOP as extremist radical, inflexible, out of touch and more and more go to the level of saying they don't have the best interests of the US at heart.

Its so funny. the extremists don't look at themselves. They blame the media. Fox news, murdoch's newspapers, endless conservative media, let alone owning the radio waves with a variety of right wing voices belching all the time.

all that media belching out the right wing story 24/7 and still the majority of the public doesn't buy it...thinks they are extreme...and the right wing blames the media.

Its tough when you stick your head in the dirt all the time and come out with sand and dirt in your eyes and can't see clearly.

You should seriously consider this statement and apply it to your own life. You must not realize the way you look at the other side is severely clouded by your own extremism. The polls really don't matter. They contradict themselves. It shows the ignorance of the polled public. They say Republicans are more out of touch than democrats and more extreme, yet they also conclude by a majority that the country is headed in the wrong direction. They voted the people steering the ship back into office. Does that make any sense?

Reminds me of a 2008 Daily Show. Howard Dean was on, and when Jon Stewart asked Dean why people should vote for Democrats, Dean explained how, yes, the Democrats had screwed up, but he claimed they had screwed up less often than Republicans.

So Jon Stewart said the Democrat's campaign 2008 slogan was: "We Suck Less"

If anyone claims that a U.S. Politician (Republican or Democrat) has the best interests of the US at heart, that person is not naive and is stupid. That ship has sailed a long time ago.

1500 is hardly an accurate sample for a poll about how people feel. It can suffer extremely from statistical biases. Regardless, who cares.

Having done polling before, a third of the people who answer polls seem like whack jobs. Who the hell would ever waste 20 minutes taking a poll about opinions? People who have nothing better to do.

The more sane people are probably the idiots who yell at you saying they are on the do-not-call list, and cuss you out for trying to scam them, apparently Americans are illiterate too because they have never read the regs of the national do not call registry that exempts non-profits/religious/ & surprise, surprise, political organizations.

Either way polling the general populace and calling the GOP out of touch is ignorant. People should realize that the only polls that matter are of the party core, and the share of the independents that each politician needs to receive in their district. And that's why small polling firms have tons of business, because they are regularly hired to poll constituent districts.

Politicians don't give a fud what somebody in their district thinks if it goes against the majority vote that elected them. Which is why Urban democrats are so enthusiastic to take away gun rights from rural voters. Because rural voters rarely elect democrats anymore, and guns are seen as evil in big cities.
