Are we afraid to use video posts on the forum or...

I was wondering why no one does video posts, so time for....

 

I am too handsome to be seen by anybody. LOL.

I personally prefer reading to viewing or listening. I am old school, I guess...

 

Actually, I prefer reading to watching videos most of the time, too. But, I keep hearing marketers telling me over and over again that their tests show video is more effective at closing sales. Which brings me back to my point...Should we as members of DP be doing more videos to increase our comfort levels and become more effective marketers?

Maybe there should be a sub-forum for people to learn and practice. For me, that practice area has been in a Facebook Group my current coach is running. He challenged all of us in the group to do videos for 21 days to increase our comfort level and prepare to use video in our marketing efforts.

(What better way to step outside your comfort level than to throw your video in a forum filled with your peers?)

 

I like what you're saying. I think it's a fabulous idea. As long as videos do not end up being promotions of affiliate offers (which goes against the rules here), I am all for it. I will keep an eye on this thread to see if there will be some good video responses.

 

Here are some reasons:
1. Hard to speak English fluently.
2. No good microphone.
3. No good camera.
4. Bad at editing/creating videos.
5. Not enough time to record one.
6. Text can be edited easily once uploaded to correct errors.
7. People are too self-conscious.
8. People don't want a specific thread to be associated with their face/voice.

Honestly, I really like watching videos, BUT it's much faster to read text. Also, your video
was of quite low quality with audio flicker and video lag, which only proves point 2 and 3 of my list.

I still encourage people to post videos, but right now it feels like taking the time to post a video is not worth it for a simple forum post.

 

lol, you are right about the low quality of my video. I considered reshooting it, but decided that is actually part of the point. If you want to get better at anything and get over the nervousness of doing it, you have to be willing to make some "crappy" efforts and keep on trying.

 

Yeh, I don't really mind the video not being top-notch, but it can be a bit annoying when someone is trying to get a message across.

Also, you have "It drains the resources on the DP Servers" as an option in the poll, but I don't think youtube videos drains any bandwidth on DP's servers if I'm right because the video is loaded straight from Youtube.

 

Hi. Love your idea!!!!!!!!. It is too noisy at my house for videos. There are seven people running around here. . I usually do videos for troubleshooting. When I'm having a hard time completing an assignment on a buyer's website, I will do a video to walk through the steps. This is especially helpful when the language barrier gets me/us. I have posted pix on DP. At least they are not so noisy . hehe. Great job. your mic needs a little work, otherwise loved it and glad to "meet" you.

Hm... I do wish there was a thread on DP dedicated to video marketing, as it is certainly the best way to make sales online. So many people use YouTube and share the videos on other social networks.. I learned a lot of web design from YouTube, and I definitely visited many of their websites.. Videos bring in traffic.

 

This. I don't think too much intelligent back and forth is achieved by video posts (and responses). The youtube comments section is a good example of this.

 

That is a great point, but do you sometimes find a video explains a point more effectively than a typed message? As an example, I could go through and explain the program I use for consolidating all of my Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail accounts in text, but it is probably more effective to do a screen recording showing the program and explaining the features. Doing a post that explains something, and then switching into a text discussion might be great in some situations.

The one thing I think might be fun, is to have an area for members to practice their video skills and get feedback. That is one of the element of DP that everyone enjoys is being able to ask for assistance to improve their skills.

 

I would prefer to read and type a reply. There is no point in going over to Youtube to leave a comment. Yes I think there could be a separate area for members who want to post videos.

 

I'll agree with you to a point. There is zero reason for us to go to YouTube to leave a comment or make a post, except to build our skills in using video for other purposes.

If our real purpose was to engage each other via video for communication and interaction it would be better to do Google Hangouts, or a similar video chat service.

I just keep wondering where marketers go to practice their skills at doing videos for their marketing efforts, if they cannot share them with their peers on places like Digital Point. My main practice arena is in a coaching group my current mentor runs, but wonder how others hone their skills. (Mine obviously need a little more honing...)

Hmmm, I have no problem showing my true identity. You get what you see...a 50+ marketer who enjoys life, writing, marketing, and to push the boundaries of the comfort zone a little bit each day. A guy who enjoys chatting with other marketers and sharing what I've learned, struggled with, and even failed at.

(Maybe I should have sang on camera, that would have really pushed the limits of my comfort zone.)

I do understand some people's desire to stay anonymous, but hopefully they understand that restricts their ability to market to some audiences.

 

They should create their own section for internet marketing videos. The reason why I think they don't is because video files can get pretty large and use up tons of bandwith.

 

That should not be of any concern to Digital Point if people post their videos to YouTube, Vimeo, or another video sharing site and just embed them here. Then the bandwidth and space is on those sites, not DP.
