Imagine that you were on a long trip and didn't have sex with your wife for 6 months or you have a girlfriend that you never had sex with and she tells you that she is 3 months pregnant but she hasn't been with anyone and God is the father of the child. Will you believe it?
I know where you're going with this, but you can't compare any hypothetical woman in modern society to Mary back in the time of Christ.... besides, back then, marriage was not about lust like the majority of it is (unfortunately) today - it was about love and integrity and fidelity. There's the difference.
I'd divorce her and leave her out on the street for thinking I'm that stupid. The difference between now and then is that today people can tell when a story is bs, or atleast most can.
You know the story and did you know why there was no room at the Inn and they had to sleep in the stable? Because it was Christmas.
You all know the story, but only part of it. IN the actual retelling of this in the Bible Joseph was about to do what everyone of us would do - divorce her. For he was at the time "betrothed" while not actually married, which is a circumstance we no longer have. IN any case what happened was that that night Joseph had a dream in which an Angel of the Lord came to Him and told him what was what. Mat 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. Mat 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Mat 1:22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Mat 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Mat 1:24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: Mat 1:25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS. Now, if WE had a similar dream, we would likely change our mind too. I have had dreams that have shaped my life. A little footnote should be the compassion that Joseph showed Mary before the dream. For he was going to divorce her quietly, out of view of others. He could have had her stoned to death by Jewish law even though he was simply "betrothed."
Any mention about what was he smoking before these dreams or can you at least tell us what were you smoking? The other thing is that the original Jewish texts mentions that Jesus will be born of a young girl and not a virgin, so what ever he was smoking, was not very good.
Ok i got a question for you people. I don't understand what pleasure atheists take in attempting to bash other religions..that's just sick..
The question is if people have learned anything during this 2000 years or can they still be fooled by the superstition?
what is it to you what others believe? why don't you leave them alone and keep your beliefs to yourself instead of pushing them onto others?
IN answer, gworld, I am smoking Marlboro Ultra Lights. A grave failing of mine to be sure. After 37 years I actually stopped for 2 months this fall, but I am sneaking again now. In answer to your "original text" issue. The Bible says quite the contrary, in which we read in Isaiah: Isa 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. The word "virgin" in the Hebrew lexicon is "`almah" and is translated as: 1) virgin, young woman a) of marriageable age b) maid or newly married ++++ [A footnote]: There is no instance where it can be proved that this word designates a young woman who is not a virgin.
Almah- means young girl. The word for virgin is: Betulah. They messed up in original translation because they were reading from Greek text and not Hebrew text and they thought it means virgin and made up the Jesus story to fit the prophecy. They still have to try to make justification for it to this day. Does anyone knows when Jesus was born?
Since the sheep were out in the field it was probably around spring. Not the dead of winter. If you take a picture of the sun at the same time every day for a year it makes the sign of infinity. At the center it's about April. Which is when the LDS believe Jesus was born. That's one thing I tend to agree with. It would not surprise me if he was crucified on his b-day
