I may be the only one here on DP that didn't know this was going on a month or so ago. I just stumbled upon (figure of speech, not the firefox extension) Nintendo's $15,000 challenge blog this week. I'm still rather amazed by the information he provided in his nearly step-by-step log of his attempt to make $15,000 in 30 days via viral marketing techniques. I'm amazed because I've read other $XXXXXXXXXX challenge type blogs and came away thinking that the author didn't really tell me anything. Why would they... and potentially create more competition? But this one covered so much ground, not just what he did ... but why he did it, or why he didn't do something else instead. This was the best of this breed of blog that I've ever read on marketing. If there is anyone else here who missed it it's here. Does anyone know of any other true examples of this step-by-step "follow along" type of blog? Thank you.
I've been trying to offer the same type of thing in my blog, but my goals are a modest couple of hundred per month.
I agree that the blog was a brilliant read and how he managed to do things was amazing to follow. It only came to me that this was Nintendo after I seen his blog link on DP going back to the challange. I thought hard about this because Nintendo really comes across as being totally whacked on here but behind it all he is really smart. Did he ever make any posts on DP regarding this blog? Your the first person I have seen post a connection between him and the challange, although I could have missed any previous posts.
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=133627 Dan actually made that thread and another Dan did the blog and challenge. $1,000,000 in 90 days!!! http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=165175 is the thread I made! I only link to it as my blog because it was such a great idea!!
Thanks nenny, neno, nanno or whatever everyone calls you these days (read your big post earlier). I wasnt sure if it was you or not when I seen that blog link.
The explanation on that blog is pretty good but the way he made his money isnt exactly to my liking.. but i guess money is money for some people, i rather make up my own original product than resell something.
Oops, looks like I screwed-up on the source of that blog. My apologies to everyone involved. I don't know how I made the connection to Nintendo ... probably just mis-read something. Anyway, it was as captivating a read as anything I'd seen in a long time. And thanks for the links to original threads.
Cool blog. I am going to bookmark it so I can refer to it later. Thanks for the link. Lots of useful info.
Report the original post asking the thread title and first post have Nintendo's changed to Dan's. Though I sure wish that was my blog!!!
I tried to edit the body of my originating post to change the blog's author to Dan. Unfortunately I don't see an edit button for that post. I guess having the post's title changed will have to be enough. Damn.
Well, what started out as a break from studying turned into three hours going over the 15k challenge blog! I see I will be spending more time going through the comments, but thanks (Bro!) and all for referencing the site and the event. I had not heard of this before and I am glad I got the chance to go through it.
