If You Lost Everything Today, Where Would You Start First?

I came across this issue about 2 months ago actually. I had well over 500 ebooks, e-courses, and other marketing material on my computer and then one day my computer crashed and I lost everything. No backup, nothing at all. But because I am a seasoned marketer I knew a few ways to get back on my feet and rebuild my businesses from scratch.

What I am looking for here is to have a few veteran/expert marketers share their input on exactly what they would do to make $100 a day, starting from absolute scratch. And I mean, having no previous marketing material.

If you literally lost everything today, where would you start to make $100 a day?

Once again, I'm looking for input from veteran/expert marketers here. No negativity, no fluff answer, just helpful knowledge that other marketers (newbie, struggling, other veteran marketers) can use to help better their online businesses.

Man, I am sorry to hear that! Must have been awful .. In my case, I would stick to the drop dead basics. Build a list in a certain niche, then promote products accordingly. It;s easy to get lost in the IM game, but if you keep things simple, there is a LOT of money to be made!

But I have to agree with you there. One of my most effective strategies is to build a targeted list and promote the appropriate affiliate products to that list along with other helpful material or resources. But then again I believe that building a list should be priority for all business.

 

TEN STEP PROCESS IF YOU'RE STARTING FROM SCRATCH

1- I would borrow $20 from any of my friends. if don't have friends then I'll write 10 articles on some hot topic and sell each article for minimum of $2 here at DP, and make $20.

2- Then I'll buy a domain name plus hosting.

3- Get an autoresponder account like free account at GetResponse, or $1 trial of aweber

4- Search on Google for a free PLR ebook related to my niche e.g internet marketing, and download it.

5- Then I'll download the free mind mapping software, and make a mind map of the important points given in that ebook.

6- Then I'll download the free CamStudio software and make a 15-30 minutes movie by explaining the mindmap.

7- Then I'll extract the audio from the video file in mp3 format.

8- Then I'll transcribe the audio file and make a pdf report.

9- Then search for free online ecover making sites and make ecover for the pdf report, dvd cover for the video and cd cover for the audio.

10- I'll install the wordpress on my domain and make a squeeze page and download page, and upload everything on to my site, and start promoting it in the forums related to my niche and build a list of at least 200-300 subscribers.

It'll only take you 3-4 days to accomplish everything as laid down in the above 10 steps. Later on when you have a 200-300 subscriber list you can do adswaps to grow your list and promote affiliate products or make your own product and sell to that list.

So this is the process i'll do if i lost everything and if i have to start from scratch.

 

Remarkable input! This is actually one of my methods I use myself. The mindmapping idea is one I have yet to try though, so I'll definitely take a deeper look into that. Audio is another method that I haven't experimented with much. This is great information and I'm sure all who read this thread will appreciate it.

Sorry to hear you lost most of your products. Yes I am sure if you have been online for some time you can start again. If you have all the basic knowledge in your head, you can start again and you would not make as many mistakes as when you first started. The knowledge is something that you would not lose.

 

For that matter, I will back up all my files in the future. And after the learning process,fortunately, the knowledge will be still in my mind and then it will be easy to stand up again.

 

This is not my thing, but I like the effort you put into answering the question.

I would start from the basics, the first thing I would do is create a list.

 

I have done must of it, when I first started.

I did it a bit different, but the process is 90% the same to what I did some time ago.

If I lost everything (my job, had to declare bankruptcy etc.) I'd pursue my secondary source of income and attempt to make it my primary.
I do translating sometimes at work and on the side to bring in extra revenue. So I'd contact companies in France, North Africa, Belgium, French Canada, etc. and offer to translate their material from French into English. Also I'd contact English companies wanting to break into the French market.

I am 100% confident that I could get back on my feet financially this way in time. But I'm happy to report that at the moment I am under contract, and I do not see bankruptcy in my immediate future.

 

Not being funny here, but the first thing I would do is buy an external hard drive!

I'm no seasoned internet marketer but I have got over 20yrs of "Offline" marketing experience to fall back on, and based on what I have learned when it comes to IM, I would get stuck into list building straight away and building a relationship with that list. My success at building relationships offline served me well and generated $6.4million dollars over a 10 year period, so thats my current online focus and will be for a while now!

 

Haha I have to admit that was actually a bit funny, but you're absolutely right. Which is exactly why I made sure I took care of that first before I began to start anything else. 6.4 million is pretty awesome Andy, I wish you nothing but continued success.

It seems as though so far everyone is pretty much saying the same thing, build a list and work with that first. That's set in stone!

Can anyone give a bit of input on how they would monetize their lists?
How do you come up with content to feed your lists?
How often should you do mailings?
Is there some type of ratio between promoting affiliate products and promoting "valuable information" that one should be aiming for?

 

Be careful next time,you lose some valuable information now for sure. If I lose everything now I would start new business but with much more experience more than the last time.

 

Sorry about man, here's my advice for you.

1) Start building your brand by getting involved with the top high traffic forums related to your niche.

2) Get involved heavily with facebook, twitter, & Linked-in ... and build awareness there as well.

3) Construct a highly effective landing page, & sales funnel... and start rebuilding your list again. Once you get get enough startup $$, you can then move into PPC & SEO once things start to pick up.

You'll be surprised to learn how easily things can pick up if you get involved, and be personal. It's all about personal branding and providing value, and the rest will follow

In terms of getting back on my feet quickly I'd sell to to other marketers. The person who said write ten articles and sell them for $2 a piece was on the right track. Can you make simple wordpress sites? There are a couple quick ideas for you. Do well...

1. I'd sit down and write down a list of ways I could drive traffic to a lead capture page.
2. Rank them in order of potential
3. Sign-up for an autoresponder.
4. Create a lead capture page, even if it had to be on a free blog.
5. Start on #1 on my list of traffic methods.
6. Create my product/giveaway/emails for subscribers.

Yes, I would start getting leads before going into the creation phase. I can always type broadcast emails until then...
Plus...start selling services until the above list started paying enough to stop selling services. Of course, in my case I sell services to people on my list...so I better not stop.
