    Both solutions are good!

OpenCart is good for small and middle businesses.
magento is good for big businesses.

I wouldn't recommend Magento for big traffic, it is rather slow and uses server resources a lot.
But I don;t know anything about Opencart, maybe it is even worse.

I couldn't comment on the stress that each platform puts on the server as I have only run live sites in Magento (and development/test sites in Opencart), but personally I never had any serious performance issues with a site getting around 5k visits per month. Also, in my opinion Magento is a much better solution than Opencart in terms of the amount of features it has and the level of customisation available.

As far as I am aware Opencart doesn't have any stock control functionality which I thought was a nice inclusion in Magento. I'm not 100% sure but I also think that Opencart doesn't have the discount code functionality that Magento offers - a pretty important omission if you ask me!

One negative about Magento is that it's complexity makes it quite a difficult platform to produce custom themes for... more talented folk that I may not have trouble with it, but I found it to be a nightmare!

Magento is quite good for traffic as well. You can go for speed optimization if it will slow down the speed time of your ecommerce website.

From experience I would start with opencart. It is very simple but looks good once you get a nice theme and edit it to your own needs.

Once you get big enough I would then pay the big bucks to get your own script made for the site.

    Dear Jaden,

    Here is your questions answer:

    Which one is better:
Open cart is better to develop the website because that save development time and money.

    Why is it better:
Easy to use and integrate plugins for non advance user

Which one can handle the traffic other than hosting the website in cloud or VPS
Magento is good to get traffic

Now, here you guys have to decide the CMS as per your budget and business requirement.

    Thanks,

Both of them are quite capable of developing better sites that generate good traffic. Generally Opencart is used to develop small or mid-sized websites and Magento for big.

Magento is great, Just be sure you install it at least on VPS. It is resource intensive.

If you plan to start something big you should consider magento as it has more options and allows complex usage which could be handy for a big site. Also if you go big, you'll probably have the funds for a dedicated server and a magento developer to assist with customisations.

Correct me if I am wrong. Opencart has a inbuilt stock control functonality in 1.5.5.1v.
Get a good VPN if you plan to get 10 K vistors.
I have written a blog post about opencart why we love it just go through it http://gugiboss.com/open-cart-why-we-love-you-top-5-reasons/

Definately OpenCart. It so much lighter and faster than Magento. Magento is such a resource hog it is pathetic. It will be well worth buying a few modules for OpenCart if needed to match features of Magento.

For small or medium business, opencart would be the best choice.

If you want a rich/full featured ecommerce platform then magento is the best fit.
Magento offers discount codes, multiple store views and has top of the line SEO implementation.

We've used OpenCart, ZenCart, OsCommerce, VirtualCart, Drupal Commerce, Ubercart, Magento, CubeCart. Out of all, I would say I prefer OpenCart the most. Clients also seem to like it.

I would recommend OpenCart for Small to Medium Sized business and for general E-commerce needs. From the performance testing we've done in the past, it is not THE best(out of all that we've tested), but still Very Good and it will very easily handle 10K. We have sites that have that kind of traffic and more.

It's very easy to use and also easily extendable if you know programming or you can easily find extensions right from the OpenCart website(recommended) - paid and free, although most of the better ones are paid, but worth it. The pre-installed options are not as many as Magento and SEO is very weak *by default*, but again with extension you can very much cover this.

Magento comes feature packed by default, highly customizable, but not as easy to use and will require a bit of a learning curve but you do get paid support and consultation from the vendor - which is something that is needed for Big businesses or if you have very specific non-generic needs.

    Hope this helps.
