Buying/Renting Mail Lists

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by massimastudios, Nov 30, 2006.

Has anyone had experience on buying or renting mail lists. For example take this site http://www.ad-site.com/eMailLists.php which the price is not bad at all, 500000 emails for 100$... with 3% response that's 15000...

What is the procedure on doing that so it's not considered spam? And because I am in the gambling business is there anything else to be considered?

Has anyone used this service and what company did you used?

    Thx.

The only legitimate e-mail marketing is with opt-in customers. The probability that you can find a list of opt-ins in your industry is good, but it isn't going to cost you so little, 500,000 names for $100.

Such a list is the fastest way to get onto the black lists.

    best regards

I know someone who bought an e-mail to over 1 million e-mail leads (I think for one or two thousand dollars). He figured that at only 0.01% response, he'd turn a huge profit.

Guess what? Less than 150 people went to his website that was linked in the e-mail, and he got no sales. A huge waste of money.

E-mail leads are horrible unless they're from your own site. I've been working on a huge project related to this that should meet many needs there, but I'd never try anything with selling normal e-mail addresses, as it's bad for you, the people who have the e-mails, etc.

Yep. That's why I will never use it. However, I used one of the MySpace bulletins a couple of weeks ago and it worked great. Still getting hits from it today and also some leads.

Well I quess that answers my questions... For that price I know something fishy was going on.

I have my own newletter list but I need to find a way of getting leads without spaming... I quess one way to do that is to buy advertising on related website's newsletters. What do you think?

because I have an online poker room... Google does not allow gambling ads... I know a few other search engines that allows gambling ads but the costs are way too high... up to 25$/click and I can't affort (at least for now) that much... I am doing small stuff untill I get enough budget to go big... I quess like everybody else.

You would be wasting your money because the list did not ask for your email. Therefore they most likely will not listen to your offer and will not buy your product or visit your site, spam or not.

Ok true but how about if i buy targeted emails, let say people that subcribe to received 3rd party promotions; they want that content. That should be ok. And how about if I ask their permission with a double-opt-in?

I have over 50Million Coreg Email List. Usually if you dont know how to Clean List yourself such as Removing Spamtraps, Having a Relationship with your Datacenter who will forward you spamcop complaints, removing spamcops and antis you are sure looking to get blacklisted. Buying email address are usually full with SpamTraps. Id suggest you look into a Cleaning Service first to Clean Out your Data. If you need any References let me know. I currently make money with Email Marketing and send out about 5 Million Emails out a Day and get very good Response. Its all about knowing the threasholds of big domains like yahoo, aol, msn and not mailing into spamtraps. Opting Out People who want to opt-out of your emails. Just my 2 cents. Let me know if you need some Pointers

The problem with these huge lists is that people who are on them rarely know
that they're on them. Any mail that comes in is treated as junk. Email marketing
works so well because people are expecting to receive your mails.. and if you're
buying someone elses list - they're not, so they treat your promotion as junk.

Xpert - 50,000,000? That's a lot. Why not sell the list to Google, or whoever
it was that bought Blue Mountain for $800,000,000?
