No, Google know which category and content can be duplicate so you can post these content on your blog and it will not penalize.

You can't just call IMDB a movie summary site, it has been around for what... fifteen years? Maybe more. They created something cool and early on. Its content is often user-produced (lists, reviews, summaries, forums), etc. People enjoy using it.

So you need to look at it this way - what does IMDB not offer and I can? Something like TV shows and films isn't easy. It's so wide ranging and a lot of competition. Instead, choose a niche within it. For example, foreign language films for your country (if it was not USA/UK) as these DVDs are often sold on Amazon USA/UK (so you could add your affiliate links) and you could provide a lot more information than IMDB does. Maybe even photographs of locations, that's something cool that people are often curious about. Also, you would want a local affiliate for in your country too (so have the site in two languages - local and English).

BUT depending on the country, the effort and reward might not be worth it. Or already well-serviced (e.g. Bollywood - but I bet you can still find a niche within it). Don't just go with one idea, but have many. And not just movie-related; have a brain storming session for things you know about and are in demand (or could learn about), then work out what would be most profitable.

Good luck with whatever you do, mate.

You might not get a penalty, but you will find it hard as hell to rank with duplicate content.

You can write in your own words whatever you want about a movie (as a summary). Obviously, as long as you're not being malicious or similar. Just giving your own legitimate view.

You know what, guys, it just hit me. What if I write a movie description, then post it on my blog, then wait for it to get indexed properly and then add the description to wikipedia (even though this could be hard to do)... Will this help my description rank higher?

Wikipedia says not to add copyrighted content, but I can just say - I don't need copyright to that content (as long as it ranks). What do you think, sounds like a plan?

    No.

Don't go duplicating your content elsewhere.

I would say if you keep yourself away from duplicate content then it would be good for you.
