Now I know why I still subscribe to this thread. It's like an IM notification or emergency server page/sentry....
Just curious,.. DMOZ down is OK, but for nearly..1 month ? eh..? Something should be happened there. Yep, I mean they're down as we can not submit new urls there.. . That's why we're there, isn't it ?
I think they are working on it, why else would they say they are working on it? But for me too I'm starting to think that it's not going to regain it's old strength. For editors: this is the time to copy the categories you love and have worked on all those years and start hosting them on your own website.
So people think they are working on it? Maybe? There are suggestions elsewhere on this forum that there is in fact nothing wrong with the servers or the software. It is for you to judge who you think is most credible with their information and unfortunately for DMOZ they have a long history of disinformation when it comes to editors and outsiders. Personally I'm withholding any judgements till I see what, if anything, comes back. But if it turns out to be nothing to do with servers and editors have been lied to then the WMD aftermath should indicate the likely reaction.
For many days I was trying to add a new site, but everytime I get this; http://www.dmoz.org/unavailable.html
may I ask why you won't be surprised? DMOZ is no doubt a huge directory I really am surprised to see them dead for a month now If they really never came back again, well.... I lost my chance to put any of my site there
DMOZ WILL be back, I know it in my heart. If I'm wrong you can all slap me in the face with a cold dead fish.
Do you have a preference? Trout, Blue Gill? Or should we just get some of those frozen VanDeKamps fish sticks?
The dinosaur was terminated in the world for some reason. Can't slap you with a dead cold fish big sister. This will bring more expense to me as I have to rent a crane for that Dead Blue Whale.
Google webmaster rule said that if your site is listed in DMOZ, its PR will be increase. So I hope DMOZ will be back...
http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=34429&query=DMOZ&topic=&type= At least there is a bit of relationship. No ?
Yes the relationship is that google mirrors the dmoz directory for thier own use (like many, many other's do). But the google directory is not the determining factor (or a major player) in Page Rank or site placement. See Page Rank Explained at Google for more information and you will see just how silly actually is.
Well, a link in DMOZ does help tremendously. If DMOZ is not coming back, that changes the game considerably, IMO. For one thing: DMOZ gets mirrored a lot, which was one of the reasons why getting a link there worked so well. So if people can't mirror DMOZ anymore, they will have to get their links elsewhere. I think linkspages will be back in the game as major influencers of the google-serps. Not that they are unimportant now, but without dmoz, the smaller ones have more of an impact again - I'd think.
