    I think sitemap.xml uses for crawlers and robots and sitemap.html for human visitors.

    Use of xml sitemap is to submit in GWT or BWT for indexing your pages in search engine. And html sitemap is for user who visit your site, sitemap helps user to check out all page of a website on a single page.
