Hi for all of you on Digital Point. Thanks for reading my thread. My question is which program should I use for editing pictures but I don't want to use Photoshop??

I'm new at this forum so I'm sorry if I repeat someone else's question.

Thank you for your attention. :)

Why do you not want to use Photoshop? If it's due to the price then I can recommend GMIP it's essentially just as powerful but 100% FREE

    Alternate applications:
    - GIMP
    - Paint.net
    - Core Painter (not free but very affordable)
    - Sketchbook Pro (Even cheaper than Corel Painter but mainly for digital artwork and not so much for photo editing)

There are others out there but these are the main ones that come to my head and are the most popular alternatives out there!

    I hope this helps!

I'm very fond of Paint.NET myself, very easy to interface with as a novice. GIMP is much more complicated, and as such much more powerful than Paint.NET, plenty of tutorials out there for GIMP as well.

You can also follow many of the Photoshop tutorials within GIMP once you have an understanding of the software.

I like Paint.net for pixel based work and I used to use it for few other things, it really has a lot of potential. I would recommend it as something lightweight and user friendly. GIMP on the other hand isn't much more complicated however the user interface is a little more out there and in your face with a bunch of stuff, as soon as you learn where and what everything is you won't have much trouble with it. I would recommend trying them both and seeing what you feel more comfortable with but GIMP is really popular and there are even unofficial executables that include much more content and tweaks for artist. There are links on the official GIMP page if you're interested in that.
