You and about 1,000 other people... haha But I do remember you specifically. :)

I kind of feel bad for him too... and truthfully, I probably would have knocked it down to something like a month if he just said, "Okay... yeah... I fucked up." Instead he wants to treat me like I'm stupid and and lie to me saying someone must have hacked his account.

    Shawn,

you can do like this you can minimize the ban to 1 month

and you can reduce all the rep and Itrader and make it to zero and let him start from the scratch and also delete some of his posts or reduce the post count to 500 some thing like this

and this will be lesson to all others who abuse the sytem

Cheap seo just msn'ed me and says to give you this message, "I deeply regret abusing the rep system, but even more so letting down the members of dp with my attempts to lie my way out of trouble. If you can find it in your heart to forgive me I would greatly appreciate it, thank you all for your care and support during this time when I am not at my peak; I will remember you all for this."

I have nothing to do with him, its just that i am really feeling bad for the guy not because he is banned but because he is really going to lose income and for someone who is so much dependent on DP ban for even a week is hard to swallow.
I am sure that he would have said sorry but since he didnt know the specific cause (I am guessing) he said someone might have hacked. I mean if that happened to me and i didnt know the cause the first thing that would come in my mind ( If i dont consider that abuse or dont remember it ) would be that someone hacked into my account and did something. I am not trying to be an ass or attorney here nor i am in any kind of contact with him right now. Hopefuly you will understand what i mean but i know its all upto you :)

Well, I certainly question his sincerity on that considering it came after I said I would have lowered the penalty if he didn't try to lie about it.... But... I'm in a very good mood at the moment, so instead of a 10 point infraction I've lowered it to an 8 point infraction. He had 2 previous points on his account, so as soon as his oldest infraction expires, his ban will be lifted (which happens to be tomorrow). But he'll still have those 8 infraction points being active on his account until March, so even a minor infraction will be enough to revert him to banned.

Good work Shawn ,I really appreciate you

Had he accepted his mistake and did not lie he would not have been banned

But rep system needs to have a change

Shawn,I request you to display the user's name who gives a negative rep to some one

It will bring in some sort of transparency and also any one can complain here if some one purposely gives negative rep to some one

Here's the lesson for everyone... I only pretend to not know anything.. (haha... j/k). :)

Actually I'm the most anal, "have to know everything about everything going on" guy there is. As an example of that, this is something custom I made that I see every time I'm in the admin control panel here... Keep a constant watch on all servers, network, hard drives, etc. Easy to tell if anything looks fishy with a single glance (like 1 server being overloaded or network traffic not on the normal curve)... then you can start drilling down into what's actually causing whatever the issue is.

It's really sad that you got affected by someone else's error.
I've just deleted a link in my sig (my own, so don't worry). You can have that spot for free.

I agree with this, the system should be transparent. This is a mature community and once we start a transperancy model over time, the threat of Rep wars will subsidise, as people would learn to be more honest while giving rep's.

At an earlier post in this thread i read someone saying the IP must have been proxied.. as shawn cleared it earlier and IP cannot be proxied.. but what someone can do is use your system as a bot by using various stuff already available in the market.. And I really dont see why would anyone go to such an extent to get someone banned. So end of story.

Ah wish we move to a transparent system soon :)

Where everyone can see why a member got banned, who gave what rep's bla bla...
