20 elementary school children plus 6 adults shot dead by a guy with a gun

That is a very tragic story, but it does not contribute to the issue.

The kid could have just as easily picked up a knife and "accidentally" stabbed himself, "accidentally" fell in a pool and drowned, or "accidentally" been hit by a drunk driver.

Also, the irresponsible mother in Newtown could have "accidentally" locked her guns in a locked safe.

 

Of course its tragic. GR: your first sentence might have been the single time you showed the brain of an adult.

The NRA and its friends have been working to block the feds from even STUDYING deaths by shootings.

Lets look into that: The NRA and its friends have used their ally's in Congress from even allowing the US to study the problem. The NRA doesn't want facts and statistics and analysis about gun deaths to be available. The NRA uses its allies in Congress to act like freedom trampling/information trampling dictatorships.

Meanwhile in Florida a law is pushed forward by the political suck ups to the gun industry that favors pistols and rifles and automatics over the lives of children, while that same law crushes freedom of speech...even the freedom of speech that has the best interests of the lives of children at stake.

Frankly, the NRA and its interests are polluting the US and its welfare with an extremist perspective.

If the folks who valued the welfare of the US, with or without guns would negotiate straightforward with the most liberal folks there would be some reasonable settlements.

Currently the NRA simply wants to raise anger and not deal with all the issues nor negotiate. Its a shame for the 30 people every day who will be killed by gunshots.

 

This is the number of alleged deaths reported to a dedicated twitter account. It's a "crowdsourced tally" Not exactly a scientific survey. And I'm not seeing these deaths on the news.

More likely you have super liberals inventing multiple death scenarios and shooting these inventions off to twitter. Also, I took a quick look at the deaths in NY and LA and many are from gang violence. Gangs don't follow gun laws.

From what I've been reading there aren't enough Democrats to even get the assault weapons ban passed in the Democratically-controlled Senate. So, if the Democrats won't pass it, just blame the Republicans - right?

I think that people should be allowed to have whatever guns they want. Killings will happen with knives if there were no guns. The same killing could of been done with a butcher knife if someone is aiming to kill people they can but they will pay for it with t heir lives in most cases. The United States will then put control on knives? The military weapons were the musket and everyone was allowed to have one. So if the military weapons are stronger we should be allowed ot have them so if our government becomes corrupt we can defend against a corrupt military. Or just bring hand guns to an automatic weapons fight?

The constitution says we can have guns doesn't say if the guns are super powerful we cannot. Nuff said.

I am sorry for all the lives lost due to this idiot with a gun but doesn't mean our rights should be taken away because of some dumb butt.

 

Don't laugh, this is what they want to do in Great Britain. Yes, they have little gun shootings, but the UK has the second highest overall crime rate in the Europe, and one of the largest homicide rates in the EU.

The UK outlawed the switchblade and gravity knife in 1959.
In 1988 possession of a pocket knife with a blade larger than 3 inches in public became illegal.
In 1996, it became illegal to sell a razor blade to anyone under the age of 16.
In 2007, you needed a license to be able to sell “non-domestic knives.”
So now there is a movement on in UK to ban the sale and possession of long kitchen knives.

 

Of course the liberals will drone on about how hard it is to do any real damage with kitchen knifes, without considering a few basic facts.

Anyone with access to the internet, or a high school education in chemistry can build a bomb big enough to wipe Sandy Hook, all it's students, teachers and administrators off the face of the planet with easy to obtain items. Timothy McVeigh proved that to be the case.

If one was particularly lazy (and psychotic), a few chains around the doors, epoxy in the locks, and five gallons of diesel does a wonderful job of cooking everyone inside a building to a cinder.

The items necessary to perpetrate these acts of terror are as commonplace and readily available as kitchen knifes, and a guy like the Aurora shooter was educated enough to know about them and psychotic enough to think he was the joker from batman (Gee, movies couldn't have played any role in that tragedy, could they?).

Unless we plan require special licensing and background checks to buy diesel fuel and kitchen knifes, perhaps we should consider building bigger prisons to keep everyone safe from each other.

 

I suspect that people like Earl would support Obama declaring a state of national emergency and suspend the Bill of Rights in favor of a new Socialism. After all, Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus (which was later declared unconstitutional, but there you are). Earl/Obama can then "reprogram" anyone that doesn't think like them, or round them up and put them into concentration camps. It's for the good of the people. This new National Socialism would require giving Obama sweeping new powers by a mandate of the people.

 

Careful, can't use the word "psychotic" or blame the big lefty donor movie actors.. You'll be labeled a big bad extremist!

that is about 30 Americans shot every day. All ages, all types of people, all over the nation, all types of circumstances.

Meanwhile tea partiers ignore the dead....completely ignore the injured, couldn't care less about their families, and rant away about Piers Morgan.

The sad thing about this issue is that every day more Americans get shot, everywhere. The other sad things is that the fanatics on the right won't bend an inch on any topic whatsoever.

There are NRA members who absolutely recognize the need for better checks on people buying guns, who have no interest in any kind of automatics, etc.

There are a lot of perspectives out there. Meanwhile the teaparty fanatics are fanning the flames of all sorts of outrageous commentary, threats and danger signals.

The danger signals are the 1474 people who died by gun shot since 12/14/12.
