Hey, I run a couple of sites in the same niche. I have my main site that generates the majority of the income because it's been the one I have promoted the most over the last couple of months. About a month ago, the other site that is basically used to funnel people into my main site was jumped to #1 for my keyword (only 3 words). Which is holding steady. Naturally I'm very happy with this outcome but I am curious, I have spent a while building up my back links on my main website and it currently stands at position #4. But I have never spent time promoting the other site using SEO (The current traffic referral percentage from Google for the site is 78%). The site is relatively old now and I was just wondering if anybody had any insight as to why the site would jump to the top of the rank all of a sudden (and stay strong for just over a month). Thanks.
Keywords in domain name doesn't make any difference only the matter is content the good content you have the good visibility you get...
WRONG! EMDs still matter, don't listen to what other are saying because others want your EMDs so they can rank easier. Obviously, EMD is not as important as links, but then again, you may not want to spam with crappy links. I am ranking sites with spun unreadable content, here's quality content for ya
In between the time you last checked your rankings and now Google could have updated the results and you're site could have content that is valuable so they gave you a better rank.
Maybe some of your competitors got banned, and you ranked. But now its an opportunity for you to maintain the position.
Agree with shand0 - it may be temporary. Goolge is testing bounce rate and other indexes. If your site has good content, usability and bounce rate it might stay higher than your another site. If not, it can be sent over firtst 50 results.
the keyword in the domain probably helped quite a bit. so many opposing views on here. i'd just keep doing what you're doing. sounds like you have it right.
its matter Mr.mujahidshaikh, if your keyword match with domain name you may be penalized....check new Google Update on domain name ...
I had a site i gave up on for six months and did nothing to and one day i started getting alot of sales so i checked my ranking and i was in the number 8 spot for a very competitive search term. I wanted to stay on first page of google so i started to get backlinks again. I submitted articles to top directory's like ezine. I started using social meada sites and i never spammed my links or bought links. Over a two month period i started dropping and now I'm on page 37. I don't know why this happened put i wonder if i left the site alone and did nothing if i would still be on 1st page. All i can say is if you hit the first page enjoy it well you can because it might not stay there.
The reality with Google and SEO in 2013 is that it is as much about what NOT to do, than what to do. So an example about getting links. If you aquire low DA links or too many from a small amount of sources it can do you more harm than good. If there not enough diversity or anchor text is keyword orientated rather than brand orientented you can lose rankings not gain. The good news is, so many people are still doing SEO as they have done and not moving forward and sites like yours moves forward without doing anything. I have seen lots of "left alone" sites rank higher than those with owners doing SEO. Google can easily identify unatural paterns.
Lol, it's just random imo. Google is doing these dumb things sometimes.. currently my UK site is holding top place in US, even though it's even geotargeted through Google Webmaster Tools to UK and I have no clue why.
I would respectfully disagree. I have ranked #1 for my personal name (which is my domain name) from the very beginning of my website, outranking more famous people of the same name (I am not famous).
