But considering we can't then what is counted for us as righteousness?

With all due respect to the Flying Spaghetti Monster and all of his noodly goodness, have you guys seen The Church of the Immaculate Sandwich? "In Your making we find peace. In Your consumption we find grace. Shelter us in Thy deliciousness."
    here
    Here is there song:

    "The Song of Flour"

Listen! We sing of fresh grain.
    New-gathered, gleaned from the fields.
It is good and hearty, it fills bone with life!
Hewn and ground, it is reduced.
    Brought down to dust.
Taste of the dust, it is whence ye came.
    Before the Sandwich.
    Rejoice! Water of the river!
    A fine dough!
It is molded and shaped by strong fingers.
    Heat of the earth!
    Bread. Life-sustaining, hearty.
    Solace from the oven.

    :)

Moses was a pegan before he was talked to by God. Abraham was imperfect and blew it too.

So, they obviously didn't attain righteousness on their own.

Jesus was perfect and showed what righteousness is.

So, you think Moses and Abraham are not or were not righteous even though the Bible says they were? If it's not the Bible's viewpoint you are not teaching what viewpoint are you teaching?

Yes the bible does say they were righteous, but read a bit about it and found out how. Hebrews 11 may help you understand it.

p.s. there is a reason Jesus isn't listed in Hebrews 11

You seem to forget that I too study the Bible. Let's stick to the one point from KalvinB. He seemed to think that we can't attain righteousness. I pointed out that this is not so. There are many named in the Bible who God viewed as righteous ones. I know why they were viewed as righteous and I understand it.

Hebrews 11 talks about faith. Not righteousness. Jesus was not mentioned in name but in verse 39 he was viewed as "something better" by God.

    Here's a snippet from Is 28:14-19:

"I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the leveling instrument.”

Which means the standards of true justice and genuine righteousness would reveal who were really God’s servants and who were not, resulting in either preservation or destruction.

Is this what you were thinking of?

I thought you didn't believe in destruction.

Have you attained rightousness? If so, how?

    no

I was thinking of the "filthy rags" verse.

Do a concordance search for "righteousness" and see what comes up.

What makes you think that? But destruction of what?

Only God can really know if I am or not. We are judged by our works. I try my best to do God's will and not my own. I have no right to say if I am righteous or not, or to say another is righteous or not.

    in context of the verse....

We are justified by faith just like Moses or Abraham. The evidence should be seen through our works that Christ has already put before us.

    THE FILTHY RAGS OF SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS

Josephus praises the Essenes highly for their piety and charity and records several instances in which they are purported to have accurately foretold certain events. He lauds them for the great affection they had for one another, for rejecting all pleasures as evil and for considering continence and conquest over the flesh a great virtue. “Holding righteous indignation in reserve, they are masters of their temper, champions of fidelity, very ministers of peace.”

God’s Word tells us that our own righteousness or good works are as filthy rags or a polluted garment. (Isa. 64:6) Basically, it was in just these filthy rags that the Essenes placed their whole confidence. The law of God as given by Moses did not convince them of their need of a sin-atoning sacrifice. They ignored its provisions for typical cleansing by trespass and sin offerings and the day of atonement sacrifices. When John the Baptist came they likewise ignored his message and provision for a representative cleansing by means of immersion in the Jordan; and when Christ Jesus came they ignored him as well as his sacrifice, which alone could bring man into a condition of being declared righteous by God.

    There you go.

I'd recommend laying off the commentary for awhile and just do scripture only studies. There are verses which clearly state the same thing.

I think Kalvin is saying all you have to do to be righteous is to accept Jesus, and Cheap Seo Services is saying that you need to accept Jesus and also live an ethical life to be righteous.
Don't worry, I think your pretty righteous already Mister. I have been thinking about the spaghetti monster and all the sites I am working on...maybe I'll start my own religion too. I think I will give out "Righteousness" certificates all for a Low Low donation of 5 bucks! HaHa:) Just kidding...

p.s. Actually I am seriously considering making a website with a made up religion...Do you guys have any suggestion for what kind of religion you would like to see?

Your religion should be built on the theory that god created the first living single cell organism billions of years ago and has had no other involvement in the universe since then.

    :) A lot more realistic.

Also, your religion should NOT publish a holy book!
