Don't you know, the biggest key to being a good SEO is to spread disinformation so that one's own efforts have less competition. :p

there is no big secret to SEO it changes all the time and so do the methods. if you check out the webmasters section of any major search engine they tell you what they look for in a site and for deeper information just watch for things like the public release of googles search engine algo patents if you can comprehend the technical mombo jumbo those little information releases tell you exactly what the new algorithm looks for and how to exploit it :p

    There are no secrets!!

There is no one proven formula to promote a web site.

You can use your tried and tested methods on two very similar web pages with very similar niche content and similar backlinks and get very different results!

SEO is about watching and learning, trial and error. What works well for one wont necessarily work for another.

Let's not kid ourselves here, SEO is mainly about _money_
If I go and buy 10 quality inbound links from relevant sites with high PR to my humdrum site, it will likely rank higher than a much better site with fewer links, regardless of content.

Google still places an inordinate amount of weight on incoming links, IMO.

I'm not saying that money is the only factor, but it's a big one!

As I learn I will also share. It will be like this for a while. But one day I will hit on something big and make a ton of money. Then I will have dropped from all forums. Yes, there are some wealthy gurus who still post on different sites. But most wealthy gurus, have businesses to run making a ton of money and would not risk the competition. Just my two sense.

    Quote from good will hunting:
Chuckie: Look, you're my best friend, so don't take this the wrong way. In twenty years, if you're still livin' here, comin' over to my house to watch the Patriots games, still workin' construction, I'll f**kin' kill you. That's not a threat. Now, that's a fact. I'll f**kin' kill you.

I think that it's likely that the only SEO tactics that are really kept secret are black-hat techniques. Here is my reasoning behind it:

Most really good programmers/webmasters/etc.... are (excuse the term) computer geeks. Most of these people believe that the internet should be used for the exchange of information and free thought. That and pr0n. Even many of the wealthy gurus still post somewhere. They have already made their money and want to make the internet better. Sure, not everybody is like this but many are.

Most things are either common sense or derived from information that is freely available. If one person figures it out and does not tell, others will.

Many ideas are developed and tested in places like forums. The fully fleshed idea may not be, but there are lots of smart people that can take the ground work and go the extra couple steps.

Even if you're in it for the money, you might share your idea. Perhaps not initially. However, search engines change all the time. You figure something out, run with it for a while, then supply the idea to others when you think the life cycle of the trick is about gone. The trick here is, you have to sell the idea after you make your money, but before the trick doesn't work.

Black-hat techniques are probably kept secret longer so that it is harder for the search engines to figure it out and block it. If you are doing something that you know the engines won't like, you probably don't go posting it around.

Or maybe I'm just telling you that so I don't have to share.....

I think the gurus only reach the top because of their will, work and knowledge, achieved from forums like this, blogs or friends.

With will, almost everything can be achieved

I think a lot of the secret is being in the right place at the right time, and noticing the potential in a particular niche or circumstance.

What works today may not work tommorow...

If there's one thing I have learned over the years, any secrets can be found for free on the internet if you look hard enough. That's the beautiful thing about it.

I believe his last name is Power. Good luck in finding him! :D

I believe some of the people might be knowing amazing SEO tactics but they seems to be underground like geeks ( except matt cutts like nice guy ). These people often hang out in black hat seo forums & blogs I guess.
