Since Dmoz is down and out I have decided that we directory owners all

together can start a Big directory like Dmoz,Since Dmoz is down and out

And also Dmoz s functioning is plagued by some corrupt editors and some irresponsible editing

But the main thing is that directory should not run on a database I have

    sorted it out

and I think that the project is feasible and All the directory ownersat DP can

come together as editors and they can also make a good amount of

money by some revenue sharing and displaying ads

What all you think of ?Are you interested in it?

    Just post your reply here

Also Dmoz was started on 1998 when the Internet was at the nascent stage

but now the Internet has grown by leaps and bounds so Dmoz should be

    definitely replaced?agree with me

    It can be done PortProphecy.

Someone needs to be behind it... someone in charge. Just be in charge and do it, don't ask for permission :)

You also need goodies like for example
    - A toolbar ?
    - Free download of the data ? in SQL or CSV
    - add your idea here

Forget it, after 1 year would be the same as Dmoz, corrupted editors, wild editing, long waiting time.

The only business model that scales is a paid directory like yahoo! Community free directories work well till they start to get big and important.

PP you're so right on that,

    LOL, Freewebspace my hero!
Why we need another DMOZ?! Aren't we learn from our mistakes?

My advice is: http://www.wikipedia.org is taking over :D so we don't need you :D

Who do I have to be buddies with so I can actually get my sites listed? Or will this be a strictly "cash under the table to editors" type deal Like DMOZ?

You see I am seriously talking about it not its joke

I do know whether some one come with me or not for taking on Dmoz

I am going to definitely start a Open directory like Dmoz

    with these features

    1)No corruption will be allowed

2)I will be in incharge as the cheif editor and monitor the addition of listings round the clock

3)Guranteed review within 24 hours for just $6 would be provided and it would be reviewed personally by me

4)And this revenue will be shared among the editors in the form of 3:2:1
    3- for me
    2- for editors
    1-hosting

    5) and also editors will be allowed to put their own ads or banners on their categories

    these are my ideas

This will be also a free directory at the same time Its data can be used by all others

ad this data would be provided in the form of html pages instead of RDF dump

I tried doing it but the coding was a bit much. Went through four coders in a year and never ended up with a directory that allowed individual category editors.

    John,

It s only html pages I would be creating it with basic html pages(but would have some standarad design) for around 490,000 categories

also my directory would not run on a database

10,000 categories would be in world section and other categories would be for regional listings

It would be easy once I finish 10,000 categories

Thats what I am saying here directory owners can automatically can join as editors

though the html pages and structure of the directory has been sorted out ,I am just looking for a webhost who could provied me with some large bandwidth

and I am also trying to sort out the way how the lsitings could be added and reviewed as these are static html pages and I am thinking of FTP as a possible soution

Are you on eating "Hallucinogenic Mushrooms"?
Please save us from these Hallucinogenic ideas, from your previous directories we all see that you are on the route to successes in making the next Dmoz.

But if you want to try it just go ahead, and keep us informed.
