Apart from the ban that has been imposed on him and the stripping of medals..there should be some kind of punishment also so that any sports person does not even think of using a drug to win a competition.
I truly agree there should be severe punishment for such sportsmen who degrade not only their name but are a disgrace to the sport.
I guess the problem with a sport like cycling is that so many of his rivals were also taking drugs so he was competing on a pretty level playing field. The sports authority can't do too much because it would affect a lot of other competitors. Where I think Lance Armstrong is a disgrace is he sued a lot of people over the years for saying he was taking drugs, which he denied and he received a lot of money from people because of this. He should be made to pay those people he successfully sued back all of the money he took from them.
What about the fans that he cheated for all these years. He should be held accountable for that also.
All that comes to mind really is that it's hardly surprising and a bit sad considering the charity work he's done. That said, although the sport has taken a hit it's not all bad that has come from it. Everyone in the cycling world would have already known the truth. There is no way in the world you can win 7 straight TDF's (the toughest and most demanding sporting event in the world) without the assistance of performance enhancing drugs it's just not humanly possible.
To be honest it seemed all along that he wasnt legit, I mean, the stuff he 'achieved' was pretty incredible
No dear i disagree as this is the trait of a great sportsperson that he/she can do something which is not humanly possible take the example from some other field like tennis (Roger Federer) and the number of titles he has won.
lol at comparing the TDF to a tennis grand slam. Although tennis has become more physically demanding it's still can't be compared to the tour de france where they ride ~200km's each and every day for close to 3 weeks. I bet you couldn't even survive 1 day much less 3 weeks!
Every sport has its take on the players and as far as comparing is concerned i wasn't comparing the sport i was comparing the achievements. Do you think its easy to play tennis i bet you wouldn't last a single game. Every sport takes its toll on the body , in cycling you just have to use your legs strength but in tennis you have to use your whole body.
I play tennis every week and have cycled before. One of my previous tennis sessions was 3.5 hrs most games go for 2-3 hrs usually! Cycling is a lot more taxing on the body especially with the terrain they're cycling on the tour. How can you compare achievements if you don't compare both sports? lol Just because Federer has dominated tennis for so long doesn't mean it could just as easily happen in cycling and thinking it's possible shows a clear naivety about the sport.
I think he's a scumbag. All those years he lied and lied to everyone who was close to him - His trainers, journalists, fellow atheletes, and most importantly, us, those who supported him and made him the man he was. He's scum.
Funny thing is that he admitted it but he really didnot apologize or seem remorseful. I really dont care, nor do I know anyone else who actually watches pro biking. To me it's just one more overpaid crybaby who got caught and now is sooo sorry. Yeah sorry they got caught not sorry for what they did.
i was more than disappointed in Lance armstrong , though a deeply flawed, narscisistic human being, like all of us, still has the ability to change and turn his life around. Interestingly, having to own up to his children and closest family members, has had the most profound affect on him. He has a long uphill climb to win back trust, or even acceptance by people in many circles of his life. I'm not writing him off - it's all up to him now
I think, if any sports person takes drug to win the game, its a one types of cheating, so there should be some punishment for him.
Fraud of the century. I wish and hope all those guys, his friends and teammates, sued and ruined by Lance bankrupt him.
I've really enjoyed reading all this moralizing on this thread. But...how many of you would walk away from the chance to make 100 million dollars a year and be world famous, if you had a chance? Even if it meant cheating....c'mon be truthful. But go ahead and point the finger and say "Oh not me!".
I think it's less about the money and more about doing whatever it took to become a champion. Basically during that era it was a requirement to take PEDs to have any chance of winning you simply couldn't compete at the same level.
I heard most sports have someone doping every time. Lance too did but the extent he's bullied his friends to become that rich, its easier to forget than forgive him!
