Thats the key. I doubt that how many people realize that. I earn more than enough with my directory and money is not a factor anymore. All i care is taking my directory to next level.

That was a really good read John. I tried earlier to give you some green for it, but DP won't allow it.

Directory can be profitable if PR is still our goal. If one day google abandons PR, lots of directories would disapear one night.

One of the best articles about directories that I've seen in a long time. Thanks for the insight.

I am not completely agree with your opinion.

The reason why you run it is the most important, if people's target is only making money in short time, that's loosing money + time. Do you think DMOZ is famous just in 1 year? Take it as your life then you may be success. No body would know Bill Gates would be the richest man by playing with PC 20 year ago. :)

My directory is one of thousands and it loses money and eats time, but it is simply another site type in my portfolio and worthy of hanging onto and building over time. There is no sense in expecting a new directory to become a mint - it rarely if ever happens - but I would also not discourage having a directory.

If my directories didn't make money, I wouldn't have time to waste on this ;)
