If you stick to it, you'll succeed. Try to think outside of the box too. Too many people try to follow what everyone else is doing, and that's usually not the best way to go. Sticking to it, bringing in quality content or offers, etc. will make you succeed.

I've seen tons of people give up after a week. For me, I had a hard time for the first few months, but then it skyrocketed and I'm taking in thousands upon thousands when I stared at virtually nothing online. I ALMOST gave up until I thought outside the box, got creative content, unique offers, etc.

In that case, even I can consider myself successful too then as I recently graduated and with grace-of-god I do earn multiple times more than what my friends earn working 3-4 times more hours at their jobs. You forgot another imp. thing to determine if you are successful and should stick to it or not. Satisfaction. I think this is what actually makes me successfull in what I do. I really feel good that I am not working for some corporate with a crazy ass boss and sticking up to him.

Here is another big question though. They (my frds; 8-4 job ppl) are sure to get promoted and join higher management levels (unless they get hooked on drugs or sleep with their boss's spouse). Will they out do us? Will we be able to grow at that same or better rate? It wont be so easy because we mostly have ourselves to motivate us (Yea, our gfs and bfs do but if they dont understand the biz then I dont they can motivate or help a lot). Another thing is we would need to save a lot to make a lot and for rainy days... atleast in what I do (domain biz). Those guys can spend all the money they got and expect a stable income in couple of days again.

    Stay honest!
Most newbies simply don't know that, to get started on an online career, the first thing you need to do is decide on a specific niche.
Research it, dig down to find an aspect of that niche that isn't already hugely crowded.
Grab a domain name that's as close to your main keyword/keyword phrase as you can... and then, the most important...
    FOCUS!
Keep at it until this becomes a success.
Actively market your product/site every day.
Work on forming relationships with other marketers.
Resist all temptation to slide off to try "the next big thing."
Doing all of this will give you heaps more than that 5% chance of success.

I always find two approaches for success..One as mentioned by ChristineR, to find a niche by researching. But I have been working on the other appraoch. I chose what I like to do, the topics I like to explore and write about. Then keep building on that... I am not successful till now, but it has a good point too..You are not frustrated because you are working on some topics you like!..any thoughts, experiences?

This is a great thread... we should help and motivate each other. To Syed123 - even if "they will outdo us", you still have what they don't - freedom. Freedom to live life the way YOU want it, with no schedule, no boss, no comute to work, well, no limits. When you start to make some sustainable income and live this kind of life - the feeling is amazing ;)

I'm working in money making niche for 3 years already and these numbers don't make sense for me. Just work and believe. And everything will be as you wish.

Relationships are the key to making any business successful. Selling to a repeat customer is a lot easier and a lot less expensive than having to continually find new customers. But relationships are just as important with other businesses. Don't think of them as competition, think of them as potential business partners. How can you help each other to grow your businesses? Two people working together can produce exponentially more than those same two people can produce working alone. Being successful at helping other people achieve their goals will ultimately lead to success for yourself beyond anything you can imagine. Success isn't about money, its about people.

This is spot on! People think making money online is easy. Well it actually is, but not until you've done a lot of work in the beginning!

Great point about relationship-building and trust...some people might be willing to buy the first time they see just the right thing...but for many others, it may take repeated exposure, as we can see, a lot of mainstream companies invest tremendously in brand-building.
