Well Australian Catholics have had enough of the pedophile priests. We, like the Irish, are holding a royal commission into it. This started re the church but has expended to all organisations. Over the next 10 years it will ALL come out.

But Corwin, I was talking more about the philosophy not the pedos. Not required. It has nothing to do with being Godly and is simply a money-making body like Google. You don't NEED Christianity to find God. In fact I believe it's turning people away from finding the real God.

Corwin: I found the hard information about % of pervs to be an interesting bit of news. I knew nothing about that, but as a consumer of news and the relatively long history of news about religious leaders abusing kids, learning from some studies that the % of pervs is the same as the general population is enlightening. never saw that information before. As a kid I grew up among a lot of catholics, a lot more Italian Catholic than Irish (but both). My running joke was that my nose punched out a lot of Italian fists growing up. Don't recall any of my friends wanting to join the seminary, but it could have been. We had a local Catholic school and a lot of regional Catholic schools all around. A lot of my friends complained abt the discipline from Catholic schools.

As to gworld, its his life. Time for him to move on.

Glad you liked the info, Earl. Yeah, in the seminary my Italian nose punched out a lot of Irish fists (the Irish priests HATED Italians). People are people, and neither priests, rabbis, doctors, policeman, nor citizens have a monopoly on morality.

But I can tell you, Earl, if you came around MY neighborhood my mother would make you feel welcome and serve you pasta.

Bushie, I look at it this way: some people make their own pancakes, most people use pancake mix. Some people can be spiritual on their own, but most people NEED organized religion.

I don't think its on the "downhill", it can actually be a rather peaceful and mind opening area of discussion, particularly for those that like to blow off a little steam and re-energize. I think the only reason you have an issue with it is because you're primary focus here is to attack people, talk with a potty mouth, insult, incite and to put it mild, you're a "shit disturber".

I had kinda hoped after multiple bans you would have finally left permanently like AnthonyCEA did many years ago. Frankly I don't think there's much need for moderation here when you're not around. People seem to get along and the discussions rarely if ever veer off topic into a childish pissing match.

One place I can recommend though is probably http://www.mentalhealthforum.net It's UK based so you may still have trouble with the language. See ya later!

Crowin, I look at it this way: some people make their own pancakes, most people use pancake mix. Some people can be intelligent and see through the BS which religion is, but most people are MORONS and NEED organized religion.

Well, I think "BS" and "morons" is a bit harsh, but I'm not completely disagreeing with how you've paraphrased my statement. I don't use the word "morons", I use the word "sheeple".

The very first philosophy book I ever bought is called "Socrates, Buddha, Confucius, and Jesus". I rejected Confucius in my youth, but now I understand... Confucius emphasized the need for rituals in the life of the common man. Rituals give people comfort and imparts duty and discipline. The rituals of organized religion, if done with the intent of providing comfort, benefit common people. In management, if a creative employee like an artist or an Engineer is going through hard times and suddenly loses focus or motivation, you are supposed to give them something to do that is ritual-based, like proofreading or sorting parts. It's boring, yes, but it brings a sense of discipline back to that person.

Many of the higher levels of certain "religious" societies - for example, the medieval Templars (Christian) and Assassins (Islam) - would teach senior initiates that literal interpretation of the Bible or Koran were for the "uninstructed masses", and that ritual services, fasting, pilgrimages, etc. were only for "social expediency" of the masses.

There's a lot of comfort in rituals. People that work 9-5 jobs rely on the rituals of that job. The higher paying jobs demand creativity and have less rituals.
