How To Begin Promoting Your Web Store? The First Steps.

Hello everybody,

In a month I am about to open my own web store which sells sport equipment. I know this niche pretty good as I also use them in real life pretty much. But the question is: how to get traffic/customers in first week? month? half a year?
I saw pretty much articles about SEO staff, which are, for sure, probably most important for e-commerce. But it works only in long term (6 month and more). How to get customers in the very beginning of web store existence? What is the most reliable method of promoting and advertising at first month or first three month of web store?

To make fast money, you can promote your site via Google Adwords, MSN ad center and Yahoo search Marketing.

 

Well advertising an online store is harden then a normal website but here are some stuff you can do:
1. Take care off OnPage SEO for every page including products pages, add meta tags, h1, h2, h3 etc
2. Generate xml sitemaps, Google Shopping sitemaps
3. Either buy from a seo company or do it yourself you will need great quality backlinks, social signals, articles, recommandations.
4. Submit your website to all search engines, directories, social bookmarking sites.
5. Advertise your site on related blogs/forums in the same niche.
6. Optional: Buy advertising from Google/Bing

 

Besides of those you also can advertise in classified site like Craigslist, backpage, ebayclassified, Social media marketing..
If you run your business in usa then Classified ads posting will be good idea that will brings more direct sell and real traffic..

I also thought that ads like Google AdWords would give me immideate response.

hor3tio, you generally desribed fundamental of any SEO strategies. For sure I will do that, but they won't give any response in a week or even a month. The question is, how to get customers in first month of web store existanance.

Make sure your descriptions include appropriate keywords. Make sure you tag your pictures. Finally, make an effort to make all your product pages social network-friendly.

 

PR Web press release will kill it for you. You could also find someone with a big sports related list and see if
you could buy a solo or something to get you going..

sports equipment is a very competitive niche at the moment..
i always start with on page optimisation, then find some links related to your niche. because yours is a new site, i would build back links slowly..., you won't get rich over night though.

 

Aswell as all the SEO stuff posted above, you'll need to create a fanbase. You'll need customers that love your brand because word of mouth is the best form of promotion!

You could use Facebook advertising to build up a fanpage and do some giveaways. That, in my opinion, is the best way to build from scratch but you do need some investment!

 

There are three basic ways.

1. SEO
2. PPC ads (adwords example)
3. Create Great and Unique content

 

Start A Competition. (Like share this image and win a Football)
Build a strong Facebook Page for your site.

I second the Craigslist posting....you really need to extract all the free leads you can out of there. That site is the 9th most popular on the web. There is SO much money to extract.

 

Decide where your links are going to come from, social links or content links. And start, with that, then move on to figuring out whats the best route.

 

I have worked for yipiii.co.uk with great success. Before making strategy have to know onpage condition (w3 validation, title tag optimization, content etc). Offpage will be UK niche site backlink building with keyword variation.

 

The best way to get an influx of customers is going to be by paying for exposure. As someone already said you can do a press release announcing the opening of your store and the great things about it. This will get news about your store spread around the web. On top of that you can do Google Adwords & Bing Adcenter. This can get expensive but it will get people to your store.

The best long term effect will be SEO. Have a blog attached to your store and provide very long and informative posts. This will take months to start kicking it so it wont help off the bat but down the road it surely will.

 

PPC and Press Releases are instant traffic! Along with word of mouth and Social Media!

Which is all part of SEO, if you can look at it that way.
