Is there a tag or something one can use to block a specific block of text on a page from the search engines to avoid duplicate content issues? I don't want to block the whole page.
I found out! from the main messages screen where all messages are listed you click and hold on the person you want to block and select "block contact" ....took forever reading the manual thingy to find that!
Hi friend, To hide duplicate content from search engine is a kind of black hat technique, so i would like to suggest you to use unique, fresh content to avoid these kinds of duplicate content issues.
Internet filters are made specifically to handle Web site blocking. Typically they let you specify only sites to be blocked—all other sites are allowed. There is a free program available that can help filter out Web sites that have inappropriate words or content:
Yes afoley77 is right. If you will show different things to search engines and to user then its called black hat techniques. And I am totally agree with afoley77 that to use unique and quality content on your site.
Black hat techniques can hide duplicate content from search engine. I have same opinion with afoley77.

There is a good simple trick.. If that's a paragraph, you can take a screenshot, cut it nicely and insert it back in the article as image, with proper alt tag. Win-win for visitors and for Google. If that's a sentence or two in the middle of the paragraph, you can just separate it from other text, and then take a screenshot, no big deal.
