Hiya, this is my first visit to the copywriting forum, I am a newbie in this area as well, so please forgive my question if it is nieve. I noticed posts about ebooks (one of which I am writing at the moment) and Blogs (which I also have). Does this constitute 'Copywriting' ? When I first wondered about the term 'copywriting' the definition I found was about 'advertising copywriting'. Is the term copywriting then generic to also cover blogs, ebooks and even hardcopy? I ask this question not out of any sort of 'academic arrogance' with the term 'author' I just wondered if there is any difference. Please enlighten me, are authors copywriters too or are copywriters authors?
Copywriting is the craft of writing persuavive ads. It's about advertising(my profession). Usually copywriters are English majors. Advertising copy in magazines and brochures for example are written by copywriters. But this forum is frequented by all who are interested in copywriting and writing in general. While I am not a copywriter I do work with and hire copywriters.
Thank you! I now feel more comfortable in here despite my probable lack of expertise in 'copywriting', perhaps I may offer something as well as learn something in this forum.
Hiii, Copywriting is all about the the writing for your product and services for selling purpose. It is about to aware your customer about your product and your marketing scheme, it is mainly used for writing for your advertising material.
Hello Though this horizon is not much familiar to me, it is interesting for magic combination of eye catching words. The whole concentration needs to involve in grabbing target audience. Sweet and funny that will make money and honey for you. Tanvir Nabi
You are far from the first to ask that question. I tend to liken straight web content and general writing as essays - like the stuff you write in school. You are explaining an opinion or fact but not really trying to get someone to do something. With copywriting, you are trying to get someone to do something. It could be visiting a website, buying an ebook, phoning someone for more information, going to a particular store, etc. On the web, things are often a blend of the two. Many business owners know that posting materials that inform, but also sell, is very effective. A talented copywriter will be able to get you to do something without you realizing you just read something intended to sell. Most ebooks will have a bit of copywriting within them too. They try to get you to follow an affiliate link, buy more materials from the author or whatever. When it comes to author vs copywriter...not all authors are copywriters but most copywriters are authors too. Some authors can't make the transition from essay writing to persuasive writing. They simply don't have the business skills and ability to identify and target an audience. While an author can reach down into your soul and scare the living crap out of you like Steven King, he may or may not be able to sell widgets with his writing.(OK, he might be a bad example as he is supposed to be a genius at writing but hopefully you get the idea.)
copywriting needs more skills, not just grammatical ans spelling ones, it needs marketing and psychological knowledges to promote products and to write copies that sell.
Well it's a good start asking for help. Copywriting(writing with the intent to sell) or business writing is much different than creative writing. Hands-on experience and actually starting some small copywriting jobs is the best way to learn. However, if you are getting into SEO copywriting you will want to at least know the basics of Keyword Density (for search engine rankings [general rule of thumb no more than 2 of the keyword every 100 words]) and Copyscape(a tool that prevents duplicate content). If you can't afford Copyscape, at least start with a free tool such as UN.CO.VER. Hope this helps.
Copywriting is mainly writing for promotional purpose. Whereas a author writes everything from ebooks, blogs, informative articles etc. A copywriter can be an author and an author can be a copywriter, it all depends what content you are writing.
