    Well, it's not a real belief. ;)
I think that the function of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is to make a point about the invalidity of ad ignorantiam arguments.

Did you guys see the 8 "I really would rather you didn'ts" of the FSM? It is sort of like the 10 commandments:)

The Eight "I'd Really Rather You Didn'ts"
1.I'd Really Rather You Didn't Act Like a Sanctimonious Holier-Than-Thou Ass When Describing My Noodly Goodness. If Some People Don't Believe In Me, That's Okay. Really, I'm Not That Vain. Besides, This Isn't About Them So Don't Change The Subject.

2.I'd Really Rather You Didn't Use My Existence As A Means To Oppress, Subjugate, Punish, Eviscerate, And/Or, You Know, Be Mean To Others. I Don't Require Sacrifices, And Purity Is For Drinking Water, Not People.

3.I'd Really Rather You Didn't Judge People For The Way They Look, Or How They Dress, Or The Way They Talk, Or, Well, Just Play Nice, Okay? Oh, And Get This In Your Thick Heads: Woman = Person. Man = Person. Samey - Samey. One Is Not Better Than The Other, Unless We're Talking About Fashion And I'm Sorry, But I Gave That To Women And Some Guys Who Know The Difference Between Teal and Fuchsia.

4.I'd Really Rather You Didn't Indulge In Conduct That Offends Yourself, Or Your Willing, Consenting Partner Of Legal Age AND Mental Maturity. As For Anyone Who Might Object, I Think The Expression Is Go F*** Yourself, Unless They Find That Offensive In Which Case They Can Turn Off the TV For Once And Go For A Walk For A Change.

5.I'd Really Rather You Didn't Challenge The Bigoted, Misogynist, Hateful Ideas Of Others On An Empty Stomach. Eat, Then Go After The B*******.

6.I'd Really Rather You Didn't Build Multimillion-Dollar Churches/Temples/Mosques/Shrines To My Noodly Goodness When The Money Could Be Better Spent (Take Your Pick):
    Ending Poverty
    Curing Diseases
Living In Peace, Loving With Passion, And Lowering The Cost Of Cable
I Might be a Complex-Carbohydrate Omniscient Being, But I Enjoy The Simple Things In Life. I Ought To Know. I AM the Creator.

7.I'd Really Rather You Didn't Go Around Telling People I Talk To You. You're Not That Interesting. Get Over Yourself. And I Told You To Love Your Fellow Man, Can't You Take A Hint?

8.I'd Really Rather You Didn't Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You If You Are Into, Um, Stuff That Uses A Lot of Leather/Lubricant/Las Vegas. If the Other Person Is Into It, However (Pursuant To #4), Then Have At It, Take Pictures, And For The Love Of Mike, Wear a CONDOM! Honestly, It's A Piece of Rubber. If I Didn't Want It To Feel Good When You Did It I Would Have Added Spikes, Or Something.

    got it here

It's not a real religion of course. It's like the "Invisible Pink Unicorn". It's a tool to illustrate how foolish a creationist argument is.

    So, for example:
Creationist: "I think that an alternate theory to evolution should be taught. Since evolution is only a theory, it is only fair that we be able to teach intelligent design theory."
    Skeptic: "Why? It's not scientific."
Creationist: "Because you can't prove evolution, so people should be able to make up their own minds between evolution and intelligent design."
Skeptic: "So, you should also be able to teach that the Flying Spaghetti Monster created life out of semolina flour five minutes ago and we all have reconstructed memories?"
    Creationist: "..."

This Parody Religion makes just as much sense as any other religion. God could exist, and I see it more logical that someone created us, but I know for a fact that nobody could be as unfair and horrible as God. Look at people in Africa, the history of humanity, and all the problems we have. Enough with the ''he is only testing us'' crap, he is just evil. I did not choose to be born in Iraq and my family has definitely never chosen to be attacked by Saddam and the terrorists.

It is time for God, whoever he is, to be fair and save the innocent.

because you know, none of the world's problems are *our* fault.

The sooner we stop blaming God because he doesn't make us all robots so we don't hurt each other, the sooner we start taking responsibility for our actions and making the world a better place.

KalvinB, it sure enough is ''our'' fault, as human beings themselves are the ones who are causing the vast majority of our problems. However, we can clearly see that many human beings do simply never change, and many are simply blood-loving criminals. It has been this way throughout our entire history, and it is exactly the case now. When the good ones act and try to make a change for thousands of years with no success, isn't it God's responsibility to make our life better? To get rid of the bad human beings? Or at least give us a real proof that when we die, our miserable lives will be replaced with good ones? I believe it is.

Shame on God for allowing all the troubles to happen, he is worse than a really bad president. You have to obey him, no matter what crap he tells you to do, simply because you have to.

I mean seriously, how hard is it for a god to just change the brains of all human beings and make us live peacefully and happily? What the heck is he doing letting all these disasters happen?

I think it's folly to believe a God is going to come and save you. Change your life on your own, and live every day like it's your last. If this God does exist, which I believe he doesn't, why waste your time thinking about him? He does nothing to help you, and when you're convinced he has, in reality, it has been you helping yourself.

I don't think it's folly to believe a God is going to come and save me, I know it is. He surely will never help out. I, like everybody else, see disasters happening all the time and history tells the same story. I wouldn't be convinced that he helped me out no matter what I achieve, unless a real proof is shown and details are provided.

We can't really ever know the theory about everything, but we can speculate about it.

You say that god is evil, but what if the creator just don't care about us? The bigbang might just be a scientific expirement in another universe(since you in theory could get the same result by a complex algoritm) and the humans may just be an insignificant part of it.

On the other hand, an argument for that the universe was created for the humans is the absense of aliens on this planet. There are an enourmous amount of planets in the universe, so logically there should be life on some of them and on some planet, the evolution will lead to a community of an intelligent population(or an intelligent monster covering the whole planet). Any other intelligent population that constantly improved their own technology would most likely sooner or later conquer the the universe planet by planet. But they havn't came to the earth yet of some reason.

But I believe nothing since I don't have the power to discover the theory of everything, but If there's a logical explanation versus a paranormal or a crackpot explanation on a subject, I put my money on the logical explanation. That's why I etc believe that terroristattacks are a work by the terrorists we get to know from the news and not some UFO/shape-shifting-reptillian/Illuminati.

I enjoy reading your posts, I think you are a very kind-hearted sensitive person. I get the feeling that you believe in God but are angry at him right now. I wish I could say something that might make you feel better, but I am agnostic and I certainly don't know all the answers. Does God exist? Is God evil? You are the only one that can answer those questions for yourself. But if you do still believe in God, I would give credit for all the evil in the world to the devil. According to religious sources the devil will wreak havoc in the world until God comes back for the resurrection day, until then anything goes. I thought this was interesting:

"In Islam the Devil is referred to as Iblis and is also called Satan (Arabic: Shaitan) (a word referring to evil devil-like beings). According to the Qur'an, God (called Allah in Arabic) created the Satan out of "smokeless fire", while He created man out of clay. The primary characteristic of the Devil, besides hubris, is that he has no power other than the power to cast evil suggestions into the heart of men.
According to the verses of the Qur’an, the Devil's mission until the Qiyamah or Resurrection Day (yaum-ul-qiyama) is to deceive Adam's children (mankind). After that, he will be put into the fires of Hell along with those whom he has deceived. The Devil is also referred to as one of the Djinns (genies), as they are all created from the smokeless fires. The Qur'an does not depict Shaitan (English: Satan) as the enemy of God, for God is supreme over all his creations and Iblis is just one of his creations. All good is from God Himself and only He can save humanity from the evils of his universe and His creations. All bad deeds are done by our choice. Satan's single enemy is humanity."
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil

I feel a little weird writing this as I am agnostic. In my own mind I have not ruled out the possibility of there being a God and a devil. But I guess if I were to be angry at someone, I would blame all the evil in the world on the devil:)

But then he'd have to toss you out too. Arrogance is thinking that you're somehow the "good" guy and the "bad" guys are out there. The bad guy is inside you. It's inside all of us. If God were to just destroy all the wicked there would be none of us left.

Because God is merciful he allows the wicked to live so they have a chance to be saved.

God proved to me he exists. He continues to prove it rather frequently. But what is proof to me may not be proof to you. If you're unwilling to accept the proof he offers you because it wasn't broad enough that everyone believed it, then that's an issue you need to work on.

God walked with Adam and Eve and they rejected him. God sent prophets to do miracles and people rejected Him. God sent his only Son and they hung him on a tree. So tell me, what are you waiting for?

"Give me a sign, give me a sign." That's what they keep saying and He sends them and yet they still don't believe.

The Devil lived with God and rejected Him. I mean seriously God could show his face and people would still reject Him. Whether or not he exists is irrelavent. Until you can say you love God because of his personality, you'll never see his face.

People keep confusing the Devil's personality and our own wickedness for God's personality. Sad really.

Please read this excellent illustration on the question why:

    A VITAL ISSUE IS RAISED

10 To find out why God allows suffering, we need to think back to the time when suffering began. When Satan led Adam and Eve into disobeying Jehovah, an important question was raised. Satan did not call into question Jehovah’s power. Even Satan knows that there is no limit to Jehovah’s power. Rather, Satan questioned Jehovah’s right to rule. By calling God a liar who withholds good from his subjects, Satan charged that Jehovah is a bad ruler. (Genesis 3:2-5) Satan implied that mankind would be better off without God’s rulership. This was an attack on Jehovah’s sovereignty, his right to rule.

11 Adam and Eve rebelled against Jehovah. In effect, they said: “We do not need Jehovah as our Ruler. We can decide for ourselves what is right and what is wrong.” How could Jehovah settle that issue? How could he teach all intelligent creatures that the rebels were wrong and that his way truly is best? Someone might say that God should simply have destroyed the rebels and made a fresh start. But Jehovah had stated his purpose to fill the earth with the offspring of Adam and Eve, and he wanted them to live in an earthly paradise. (Genesis 1:28) Jehovah always fulfills his purposes. (Isaiah 55:10, 11) Besides that, getting rid of the rebels in Eden would not have answered the question that had been raised regarding Jehovah’s right to rule.

12 Let us consider an illustration. Imagine that a teacher is telling his students how to solve a difficult problem. A clever but rebellious student claims that the teacher’s way of solving the problem is wrong. Implying that the teacher is not capable, this rebel insists that he knows a much better way to solve the problem. Some students think that he is right, and they also become rebellious. What should the teacher do? If he throws the rebels out of the class, what will be the effect on the other students? Will they not believe that their fellow student and those who joined him are right? All the other students in the class might lose respect for the teacher, thinking that he is afraid of being proved wrong. But suppose that the teacher allows the rebel to show the class how he would solve the problem.

13 Jehovah has done something similar to what the teacher does. Remember that the rebels in Eden were not the only ones involved. Millions of angels were watching. (Job 38:7; Daniel 7:10) How Jehovah handled the rebellion would greatly affect all those angels and eventually all intelligent creation. So, what has Jehovah done? He has allowed Satan to show how he would rule mankind. God has also allowed humans to govern themselves under Satan’s guidance.

14 The teacher in our illustration knows that the rebel and the students on his side are wrong. But he also knows that allowing them the opportunity to try to prove their point will benefit the whole class. When the rebels fail, all honest students will see that the teacher is the only one qualified to lead the class. They will understand why the teacher thereafter removes any rebels from the class. Similarly, Jehovah knows that all honesthearted humans and angels will benefit from seeing that Satan and his fellow rebels have failed and that humans cannot govern themselves. Like Jeremiah of old, they will learn this vital truth: “I well know, O Jehovah, that to earthling man his way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.”—Jeremiah 10:23.

Our righteousness? To be righteous in God's eyes then one must be doing all that God requires. For example, Moses, Abraham and Jesus were righteous because they did all that God commanded them to do. But, here is something to read on the term:

    RIGHTEOUSNESS

The Hebrew tse′dheq and tsedha·qah′ as well as the Greek di·kai·o·sy′ne have the thought of “rectitude,” “uprightness,” indicating a standard or norm determining what is upright. “Righteousness” is frequently used in connection with a judge, or with judgment, giving the term a somewhat legal flavor (hence, the original-language terms are at times translated “justice”). (Ps 35:24; 72:2; 96:13; Isa 11:4; Re 19:11) In the Mosaic Law, at Leviticus 19:36, tse′dheq is used four times in connection with business transactions: “You should prove to have accurate [“just,” AT, KJ, Le] scales, accurate weights, an accurate ephah and an accurate hin.”

God Sets the Standard. Greek scholar Kenneth S. Wuest says: “God is the objective standard which determines the content of meaning of dikaios [righteous], and at the same time keeps that content of meaning constant and unchanging, since He is the unchanging One.” He then quotes Cremer as saying: “Righteousness in the biblical sense is a condition of rightness the standard of which is God, which is estimated according to the divine standard, which shows itself in behavior conformable to God, and has to do above all things with its relation to God, and with the walk before Him. It is, and it is called dikaiosune theou (righteousness of God) (Rom. 3:21; 1:17), righteousness as it belongs to God, and is of value before Him, Godlike righteousness, see Eph. 4:24; with this righteousness thus defined, the gospel (Rom. 1:17) comes into the world of nations which had been wont to measure by a different standard.”—Studies in the Vocabulary of the Greek New Testament, 1946, p. 37.

Luke shows the sense of one’s being righteous in saying of the priest Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth (the parents of John the Baptizer): “They both were righteous before God because of walking blamelessly in accord with all the commandments and legal requirements of Jehovah.” (Lu 1:6) Righteousness is measured by conformity to God’s will and his commands. His specific commands may vary from one time to another and from one person to another—his command to Noah to build an ark has never been repeated nor does his command regarding circumcision apply to Christians. Nevertheless, God’s personal standards, his personality, and what he is, as expressed in his words and ways, remain ever constant and hence provide a perfect standard, ‘rocklike’ in firmness and stability, with which to measure the conduct of all his creatures.—De 32:4; Job 34:10; Ps 92:15; Eze 18:25-31; 33:17-20.
