Looking to have database structure for Dating website built - what is best way to go

    Hi,

I have several dating websites that I would like to have built but don't have much money, I can probably build a template but I need the "guts" of the website to make the "matching" aspect and profile part work with the site. I'm guessing that is dealing with database software.

My question is wheter you believe I can learn this code or pay for the code and implement it into a site or if the whole site needs to be built at the same time.

Sorry, I'm a newbie so I hope this doesn't sound too bad.

I look forward to your replies!

It can be learned (people do write sites), but whether you can learn it is something we can't answer without knowing you. Are you an analytical person or an artistic person? Are you willing to spend at least 6 months studying without writing any code?

That depends on how much money you have available. Programmers aren't cheap, and no one works for nothing.

Nothing "has to be" - you can code any part of the site at any time, since you write the whole thing before you start any coding.

    Hey Rukbat,

Thanks for the reply! I'm more of an artistic person but I've tried learning code and got it for the most part, mainly HTML and CSS. I just need to sit down and learn it. I'm trying to learn it because of the money thing and I figure there prob. are a lot of employment opportunities too if you can code well.

I guess I'll give it another try and see how well I do this time.

    Thanks again!

Don't let that make you think you can learn programming. Not to be a wet blanket, but HTML and CSS are design (right brain) and programming is logic (left brain). Being good at one usually guarantees that you won't be good at the other.

Coding well isn't something you learn in 6 months, though. Someone who's been doing it for a year or two is an entry-level programmer. I've been doing it for 40 years and I still learn new tricks all the time.

Just don't expect too much too soon. And don't try to learn a programming language until you've learned programming. Learning a tool before you know what to do with it is a waste of effort.

I have just finished a dating website. Took me about 4 weeks. Script is written in Nette framework so in pure PHP it could take twice as much time.
For you then it will be best to hire someone for the programming part or you can learn it yourself but it just won't be immediate.
