Methods of increasing traffic and popularity for information websites

Hi. Today I would like to share my thoughts regarding promotion and popularization of information projects as well as to hear your opinions.
I have task to choose the most effective ways to increase traffic for web resources that don't sell any products or services but only provide content.

Google Adwords
Google Adwords and other ads brokers based on pay-per-click principle - aren't suitable since visitor shouldn't make a purchase or become client. Our goal is not to sell but to tell about project and its content as many people as we can.

Pay per impression
CPM banner ads could be effective in this case, but this kind of advertising is more directed to brand building and traffic from the use of such advertising is usually not significant. It's possible to use this method as an auxiliary to classic SEO.

Social Network Sites
Usually effective in such cases but require a lot of time as the maintenance and promotion of the same group in Facebook isn't so fast. If we consider that the website is not in entertaining areas then to get high traffic from social networks won't be so fast and easy task.

In your case, you need to rely on high-quality content and promotion of internal pages not just home page. This will give in the long term constant traffic.
Besides you can not get round the social networks - it can be a very effective source of traffic for news sites. May also be appropriate to use viral marketing if website content allows it.

I agree with you in getting the best traffic to the site is using the three of them..but you have to emphasize in social network site because it is free and most people used it.
