Unique content is the way to go always I would suggest. However why not do content curation and ride the back of other excellent articles, blogs, videos that are in your niche. Post a snippet of someone else's blog, then a link to the rest of it. Then you pass your thoughts and ideas about the article. Same with videos. Just make sure you credit the original author and don't post more than say 10% of the article on your blog/site. Sound advice, Andy. Especially the ten percent rule. More than that and you run the risk of being accused of creating a 'derivative work', which infringes copyright. You also run the risk of Google erroneously deciding that you are creating some sort of 'mash up', which is an instant downgrade, of course. Google have always been a little Calvinistic in their ideas - better that 10 innocent sites get banned than one guilty site gets free traffic...
To be honest I have never posted as much as 10%, probably never even 5% of someone else's work. On reflection I think 10% of a long article is too much to post. I would just give viewers a flavor and then give a link, followed by your thoughts. Thanks for making me reflect a little.

This is true. However, all the search engines know this. They won't penalize you for using a common phrase or two. However, they WILL penalise you for using a whole bunch of common phrases that already exist in a page elsewhere. That's what duplicate content is. It's a percentage thing. If they can't find anything else that you're even vaguely similar to, you're effectively 100% unique.
If you are don't wan unique but need quantity, just find a good spinner software and spin your article.
That's really funny. Google can spot spun content now. In fact, OUR tool can spot spun content. It isn't difficult. Spun content now is worse than duplicate content, because it tells Google that not only do you like to steal other people's stuff, you think you are so clever you can hide it with a crappy bit of software.

That's great. Well done. But you need to understand the REAL point of this - You cut and pasted a bit of content from someone else's website into the forum here. You used a spinner to try and disguise the fact that it was duplicate content. All that happened was that you made it very obvious that not only was it duplicate content, it was badly spun duplicate content. What do you think Google does when it finds badly spun duplicate content? Frankly, if *I* can figure that out instantly, using only our own humble inhouse tool, what do you think a big search engine can do? Duplicate content is dead. Spinning is dead Automated backlinking is dead. Get it???
