    Dear experts,

I recently updated my wordpress blog through wp-admin but after I clicked on "install update", I received the following message.

An automated WordPress update has failed to complete - please attempt the update again now.

I am also unable to work on my blog, i.e publish new posts and pages. I tried the same thrice but all in vain. Any idea, what this problem could be.??

You can ask your hosting provider to restore from the most recent back-up they have. Most back up daily so you shouldn't lose much, only posts you have very recently added. Suggest you check with your hosting company first if you still experience updating difficulty for their advice.

Well, that message on top of dashboard is removed after I renamed .maintenance file through FTP but I am still unable to publish any new pages. I think, some paths were changed during the update. Please help me to get rid of it.

    Regards

Yeah there's a problem, /sym/root/ is invalid. It's hard to tell what the exact problem is without looking at the installation exactly. Your best bet is to just rollback your files to the latest backup you have, see what the initial problem was when you tried to upgrade at first (you may need to manually upgrade), and then continue from there.

If you're not an advanced WordPress user, trying to fix this yourself in that condition will cause you more headaches than just doing a reinstall.
