The purpose of marketing is to create an awareness about your product to the visitors or the buyers. Hence marketing is not necessarily done with the motive of selling your product alone but with the motive of making people understand the pros and cons of your products or service. Selling follows marketing. Do you have any other opinion about the purpose of marketing?
Hi Prasanth, I think you make a good point. For me Marketing sits firmly at the intersection between the business and the end user - it's all about understanding customer insights, their needs and requirements and communicating with them effectively the value of a product or service. However, as a business function marketing is also responsible for planning, identifying, positioning and overall monitoring of the market (via a solid research process) in order to sustain profitability of a product or service. Depending on the marketing activity you're conducting and/or the goals/targets you've set yourself, leads and sales can of course be the result of a well planned campaign, however marketing is much more than just 'selling' - maintaining a continued information stream about a business and generating awareness is often equally (or more) important.
The purpose of marketing is to identify, anticipate and satisfy your customer requirements while making a profit. Marketing is the distinguishing, unique function of business.
Valuable guides by Prasanth..In short Marketing is to sell your products/services to customers in short period of time with excellent profits/earnings expected in returns by getting awareness of targeted customers to the products/services you are selling. Take care of your business customers and in return customers will take care of your business.
Good points. It depends on what type of marketing you're talking about, of course. For example, the purpose of affiliate marketing is to "pre-sell" your visitors, and to prime them to click your link, and let the vendor's sales page close the deal. Nice thought-provoking post.

More than 87% of people research a product online before they decide whether they’ll buy it. Over 90% of people in the U.S., with similarly impressive numbers the world over, use the Internet on a regular basis. Your competitors may have more optimized websites that take away potential visitors from you. You need traffic that will benefit your business, such as visitors who will buy a product, not random visitors who are not the target market.
Marketing help to educate the people about the product and services offered. Now a days people want to know each and every aspect of the product there benefits
The purpose of marketing is to let people know about a certain product or anything that you want to promote. It is also used to attract others, identify consumers and increase sales.
I think you are right in defining marketing. Marketing is a means of making brands. Marketing is the process which enhance sells. It provide a strong foundation to seller to sell their products and or services for long term. Actually marketing is a necessity for long term sells.
“But the aim of marketing is to make selling superfluous. The aim of marketing is to know and understand the customer so well that the product or service fits him and sells itself. Ideally, marketing should result in a customer who is ready to buy. All that should be needed then is to make the product or service available… Marketing isn’t advertising. It isn’t branding.†Also the purpose of marketing is to maximize customer lifetime value and to reduce shareholder risk.
Great post. Marketing is all about "priming" the reader to buy, and getting them into "buyer mode", and by the time they reach your sales page, the deal is already closed. Jake
If your main purpose of marketing is to help others by providing them with quality products they need then sales will be generated easier because your customers will love you. But if your main purpose is merely money and profit, you won't care if your product can really bring benefits or not, you won't care if your customers are satisfied or not. All that you will care is only money and money.
I think marketing is persuading your target audience that your product or service fills a need or want of theirs.
Marketing is making your target market aware of your presence. Remember that no matter how good your services are , if people do not know about it, it is as good as nothing. Marketing can help you establish your business in the industry, build contacts to make mutual partners and attract prospects. For me it is the backbone of businesses. The success and failure of a business depends on how well you established yourself in the industry.
Marketing is promoting your product to improve sales. It is to increase awareness of your product/site/brand with the aim of increasing sales. Have a good day!
Awareness of the product should certainly be the primary intent of the marketer. If a seller succeeds in creating the right awareness then he can emerge out as a successful businessman.
