google backlinks question

hi folks

little question for all you SEO folk out there

Im a little confused about backlinks, if i type for instance link: then my domain name into google, it only shows up very little links back, however I know my website link is on many more websites, directories etc,

does google only show backlinks that it takes into consideration when working out page rank/listings etc?

this might be a really stupid question, but im quite new to alot of this SEO stuff

 

The Google link operator only shows a 'sample' of BLs... use Yahoo instead

the reason im wanting to know, im currently spending money doing alot of SEO on both my websites, getting links, submitting to directories etc, trying to build good backlinks to my website

what I was unsure was when google checks for backlinks does it check them all , I was just worried if i was spending money on links etc, and it wasnt going to do me any good in google

so by getting backlinks even if they dont show if you type link:domain name in google, as long as the websites im getting links from are being searched by google, this will over time be good for me, and help increase my SERPs?

 

I'd be willing to bet that most of the links that you get will not show up in google backlinks, which as stated earlier will not help you with google serps, unless it is a very easy keyword and if that is the case you will not need any links at all just good on page seo.

 

For the most part. There are some differences in how YaH and G would weight them, but for those who simply MUST know it is a good starting point

google shows the most powerful links, use yahoo to show more.

 

For me it seems Google just as often shows my weakest links, PR0"s and Directory link. Often my highest ranking most relevant sites don't show. I havn't really come up with a decent idea why they show the links they do.

This is a correct statement.

Sometimes the links that may look to be powerful are not really that powerful at all. Google does some weird things sometimes.
