Regardless of the value they bring they can't hurt you as gypsy says because if they could it would be a easy way to kill competitors. If this method worked I could get any site in google banned.

Agree! My PR0 site is outranking PR5's, easily done. Just dont think it'll happen tomorrow, build unique content and quality links and you'll be there in no time :)

Just cause I am feeling picky today on getting things straight... Your TOOLBAR PR is 0 -- Page Rank is calculated on-the-fly. Your site MAY actually be a PR3 now, but you have to await the next TBPR export...

Just so people know (remember).. a friendly reminder :D

You probably can with a site that hasn't been around for long and doesn't have many quality links. It wouldn't really happen in the real world since the new site with few links would not rank high in Google.

To have any affect against a powerful, well-established site it would probably take thousands of dollars to test the theory.

What is more likely is that sitewide links are given little weight or counted as 1 link.

Google spends hundreds of millions fighting spam. They know and accept that there is going to be some collateral damage.

Talk to a black hat and you will be blown away at the "spy vs spy" type wars that go on. Over the years, I have learned over and over that Google is smarter than most of us. They know how to identify qualilty sites and links and I doubt that sitewide links meet those criteria.

    Here's a strategy for you:

    - Grab for top 20 domains for you target keyword phrase in G, Y! and MSN
    - Grab all their backlinks together
    - Find similarities in backlinks. If 2 sites are getting a backlink from the same site, get your link on there...pay to be there or find some other way to get there without reciprocating.

You'll probably find 50-100 links that 2 or more of those sites are getting links from. I wouldn't be suprised if you're #1 after getting those 50-100 links (of course, using appropriate anchor text to rank for target keyword).

4000 backlinks is probably from forums and other low ranking sites. work hard and it can be done.
