www.konker.net. That host is awesome, i have them for my VPS, and they have had zero downtime so far this month. Infact, zero downtime whatsoever. Rob
My opinion about dreamhost is also positive, but not all sites belong there. It all depends on which kind of sites do you have. Some would be better in a VPS, and others in a dedicated machine. Some hosters are slow on sql, but better on other things. That is why I currently host with 4 different companies...
DreamHost support services is the slowest of all available. And besides...there are many coupons already available. Better option for new websites since low traffic requirement and uses. 22.4$ with using coupons like the above stated or DEAL97 if i remember is some worth plan available online.
I don't think their support is so slow... another day I sent them a question about new subscriptions, and we exchanged some emails with no delay. I guess it depends on the day...
almost ALL shared hosts sell you more than they expect you to use-- if every client used everything, they'd either be losing money or have to charge absurd prices. that being said DH is pretty impressive if you want a lot of BW for little money, friend of mine uses them and sends 1TB+ a month with no complaints from them. their servers tend to be overloaded in terms of system load / total customers though.
Eh, DreamHost might have been popular with new adult webmasters but anyone living on their sites income had already moved away from them long ago. The reason you see it spammed to hell and back is their affiliate program. I wouldn't host a blog about my cat on their servers much less a website with thousands of hits per day.
Aha Google can host as much as people can put on their servers. Their set up is just a bit different from the norm.
If they were so bad, they wouldn't have 360,000 sites hosted with them. http://wiki.dreamhost.com/index.php/116_Common_Questions Some of small size, others really known, like any webhoster.
godaddy has some of the worst hosting out there. yet because of their successful marketing they're one of the 10 most popular webhosts in the world.
Why does everyone hate on every hosting service out there. Is there not just one service that everyone likes ? I used dreamhost and it was very good.
Disgust, you are right about that. But DreamHost has lots of internet savvy people with them, especially bloggers that easily spread the word. It's a totally different public than Godaddy's... DreamHost is very good for it's price. It's not a dedicated server, neither it has 100% uptime, but it works ok. I have around 60 sites there (one of them is an arcade site with 2700 flash games), and I'm happy. It's not my only webhoster, but it's one of the best I've used in the last 9 or 10 years. It's not perfect, and the one I used that was more close to that cost me $49 a month, not $8
different people have different standards. what's unacceptble to me may not be unacceptable to others.
This is what happened to me... my account got cut off... I said Ive only used 35% of the bandwith.. then they brought up that processor time stuff. I had 1tb account... It's full of shit.
Bandwith isn't really important. If you have an heavy script, or poorly coded, it will hog the processor, and use little bandwith. You can't have one client risking a server with hundreds of sites. If you were the webhoster, what would you do?
DH is overloading their servers, they put cpu restrictions at the user level, which is a good idea on their part. But their db servers go down quite frequently, their web hosts serve 500 errors quite often. for $10/month, that is going to be the norm. I like their web interface for managing, and I have little time to manage my own dedicated server.
