Hey everyone. Must say a great site you've got here, a real gem from what I can see. I'm a final year student at Sydney University (In Australia) and they don't teach you any of this stuff at all! Just how to make the website. And the point of making a website if nobody can see it is? For anyone interested, my website is http://www.arcadegateway.com/ It's my first website, about three months old and going pretty well. I've put a lot of effort into giving it lots of cool features. You read so much about quality content being a key to success, I try to apply that as much as possible. Anyways enough ramble, I hope I can not only get a lot out of this community but also contribute to it! Cheers, Tristran
Brisbane here. I would ask about ad placement as a first - mind you, your ads are pretty well blended already. Second would be "how to you market your site"? I would say first utilise the major social bookmarking sites, try to get some advertising on forums, etc. For example, I'd sell you one of my link spaces in my sig for $10 a month. That's a start. However, you can get most of this stuff free just by setting all your signatures to include keywords and a url of your site.
Thanks Kate Yes Sydney is definately a great place to live. Avoid Redfern though. Wow I wasn't expecting other Aussies to be around. I guess there really are webmasters downunder. Thanks for that Xitanto, great advice there! I'm a little confused about how link spaces help. I realize that if google update their pageranks and your link happens to be on a high pagerank site your pagerank increases. But these updates only happen once every few months yeah? So if I go and buy link spaces in sigs/sites does that mean I would have to do it for a few months to be sure I would get something from it? And lets say I stopped getting the link after 6 months - would my rank go down as a result of no longer having the link? Thanks for the welcome everyone
