What are your thoughts about Wordpress? I am thinking about alternatives

I use Wordpress now because it seemed to be the easiest to use to start up a new blog/site. I love the plugin concept of Wordpress. However, finding a good theme that is not buggy or expensive and that does everything I want seems difficult. So perhaps I should just re-create the sites without using Wordpress, but I want to be able to update with articles and I would miss the plugin functionality of Wordpress. What are your thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.

Do you have to have any programming skills in order to implement Joomla?

I know how to install Joomla, implement Joomla theme, and modify the site.
Joomla is similar to WordPress, but more complex. So it is recommended to see some tutorials first.

what is your blog purposes ?
monetizing it or just a blog ? what will you do for marketing ?

personally, i am not using wp, because I don't know wp script and how to create a template on wp.
for me, it's easier to do seo for my own website, not using joomla or wp..

But, I agree that wp has a lot of plugins and cheap templates.
If you decide to use wp, then it's worthit to buy a template. I think there are a lot template sold about $25..
    happy blogging.. :)

Does Joomla have more functionality? Is it able to customize easier?

Yes, Joomla has extensions and modules, but it is slightly more complicated than WordPress.

What did you decide on? WP or Joomla? I just started my own website/blog, too, on WP. Learning the kinks and bugs with the templates.

Joomla is much more complex than WordPress, especially for newbies. Joomla templates are also "expensive" but if you want a quality theme it has it's worth...and trust me it's worth buy a quality theme between 30 and 45$ cause that's make you easy to finish a blog or website without help of experience WordPress developer who will hande bugs on your cheep or free template.

If you making money selling modified themes, trust me it's worth it.

Wordpress is the best for seo! If you looking to be able to rank your sites every quickly and easy, then I would stay with wordpress. You can find some cheap theme that's looks good! I just download a theme for free which is a nice clean theme.

I will most likely stay with WP. It seems to be the de facto blog software. I may just need to outsource the customization of my blog. And Maurice is correct it is optimized for SEO stuff. However, I think eventually I may just hire a web developer to redesign the site from scratch.
