I have been introduced to someone who is part of this project called Tomorrow City. They are a group of friends who are interested in environmental friendly city with democratic administration. They are not the typical intellectual and dreamers who only talk about these thing and they have actually decided to build a city and even have bought the land that is going to be built on. They are in the process of setting up a web site that can organize people who are interested in such subjects. It is an interesting project and I am going to try to help them with what I can.
What do you think about this? Is it dream or reality? Their web site is not ready yet but take a look and see what you think.

Thanks but this thread is actually in wrong section. This is not about review of the website, it is about the project of building an actual city. What I wanted to do was to discuss the project and the different steps in doing it.

Where did they buy the land? I think the country and specific location would make a huge difference in whether this is in any way a serious idea which could end up being "environmental friendly" or just some bs to make a couple friends feel better about a pipe dream combined with a silly land purchase. Since the location is not mentioned either in your post or the website, that I could see, it seems more like the latter.

They have bought the land in a European country. The reason for not disclosing the location is that they don´t want to push up the price for the land around it and start a land grab because they want to develop it even further after the first stage. The people involved are all businessmen and scientists and they have paid a large amount of money (millions) for the land so I don´t think they want to waste it on a pipe dream. The website is not fully ready yet but I had a discussion with them and the idea is very interesting because it is not only about being green but also about how to have a democratic organization for running the city. They are talking about direct democracy when people can vote on each subject.

Hard to know how viable the idea is without knowing where it is. A lot of the potential to have an environmentally sound city depend on the geography of the area as well as the regulatory environment due to the government in place.

    p.s. "Pual Romer" is misspelled.

They are looking at different ideas for energy but their idea is to be self sufficient on energy, water and to some extend food. It is more than a green city and more of a social experiment. They are discussing a lot of ideas like all the utilities, health facilities and commercial spaces be owned by the city which in turn is owned by the population. They are talking about the type of businesses that are not dependent on the location to provide employment. It is a combination of capitalism and socialism which makes it interesting for the socialist in me.
Why don´t you join the discussion there, it is more interesting than usual Muslim VS Jews & Christian discussion in politics & religion section? It will be interesting when all the different views meet to form the future.

Thank you for the tip about the mistake, I will tell Tony (admin) to correct it.
