I recently started up a myspace resource site but didn't use one of the turnkey scripts everyone else seems to use. Some of the content on the site is unique and made by me (probably 10-15%), and the rest is the usual contact tables/smilies/etc found on every other resource site. Anyway to get to the point my site was getting close to 200 hits a day from google about two weeks ago, and then all the sudden it stopped. No more traffic from google period. The site is www.layoutsmart.com . Does this have anything to do with my meta-tags? Appreciate any help. Thanks, Sam
Your site is indexed actually http://www.google.com/search?q=site:layoutsmart.com&hl=en&lr=&newwindow=1&filter=0 What do you mean by Blocked?
Hmmmm your right that I'm still in the index, but in the past two weeks I have not received a single hit from google. My site use to be on the first page for over 100 or more keywords. It was #5 I beleive for "Online Status Icons". So not sure what has happened
Hard to say without more history... what changes have been made on site (to the site itself) and offsite (link building activities etc..) Also, I am constantly tracking targeted terms in the SERPs as well as via analytics on my site(s) so I have more empirical data at hand to diagnose
Only real changes made to the site is new content I add about once a week. As far as link building the only links back to it are myspace profiles basically. Around 600 of them at this point.
Google rankings shift all the time and extreme shifts are not uncommon. New sites will sometimes rank high for a short period of time and then drop down considerably. Anytime you make changes to the content, it changes keyword density and can also affect your rankings. Wordtracker shows 28 search per day for the term, so it shouldn't be very hard to rank for if you get some backlinks with the term as your anchor. You might also want to target another keyword that will bring you more traffic.
Well, your site is brand new and has little in the way of back links (votes)... You may have experiences some intial Google Love, but that can happens sometimes and rankings receded... Looks to me like you have just come out of the starting gate and have a ways to go from here... Hunker down and learn some SEO ... start with Keyword/Phrase research :0) Some ramblings from elsewhere; Hope that's a good start to the journey 4 U
You have now just 9 pages in Google index, was it the same when you were getting 200 hits/day from Google ?? If yes then as the guys said about how Google treats new websites, loves them at the beginning and then dramatically stop sending any traffic !!
I agree with mjewel. I see this with my new sites all the time. The rankings should stabilize after a year or so.
To maintain ranks in keywords after initial outburst of hits from Google, is Link exchange extremely necessary...
