im confused once again. testing/improving the positions of my keywords. i have a "keyword" set when i go to google and search for "keyword" another word, i dont see it anywhere, but adwords says that this keyword is active and working ok. The price is set high and everything. What am I doing wrong?
Depending on your budget it may not be shown everytime - iotherwise your budget would be depleted early in the day and your ad would stop showing. Check out this page for more troubleshooting tips.
no no, i didnt run out of the money, the day just started few hours ago, ads are still up, but some even with a high bid are not showing at all...
That could because Google is trying to deliver your ad evenly over the day. For example; Your daily budget is $100 and you're bidding $1 per click on a keyword that Google estimates can/wil generate 2,000 clicks per day. If Google showed your ad everytime the term was searched for your budget could/would be used up very early in the day and your ad would not be shown for the balance of the day. It's called standard vs accelerated delivery.
they are pricey but not very competitive, the market that im after is very specific. There are competitors but its not crazy as "web hosting" or "DSL" or anything like that.
shouldn't be based on impressions or something? that keyword had nothing. but yea, you right, i do have them set to be spread out during the day. so then another questions, when im going over my keywords, to up the bid for the position, should i be looking at the day before stats, instead of where they are today? Another question, i try to have my ads in one of the top 3 spots, 1st one is too much money, there is one dude there, he outbids everyone, even tho i know of him, and hes not a huge company, but he definitely does better then me. so i want to keep my ad last out of 3, in blue on the left. being second to me seems like im hidden, i can see my ad better as being on the edge of the blue. Question, am I crazy, or someone else does that too. And btw, i want to know what does that guy do to be always number one, just a crazy high bid and with time we developed a good convertion being first? it is better to be last in blue, then first on the right on the page, correct? has to be since its more money...
Strangely enough I get better ROI (for a particular campaign) when I rank 5, 6 or 7 ... ... I naturally try to avoid paying more than I have to for results H
if im lower then 5 i dont ever get any clicks, im new to adwords, but i have been running this thing for about 6 months. I dont do it full time, gotta a whole business to run, but lately i've been slightly upsests with this to learn it, and get a better use of it, it is costing me a lot of money
It's costing you a lot of money because you're trying to get into the top 3 positions. You need to know what your conversion rates are (i.e. how many clicks to how many sales), then work out your CPA (cost per acquisition). Work the figures backwards, and you should be able to work out what your maximum CPC should be. Of course, if you've got a backend strategy for up-selling/cross-selling etc in place, then your customer lifetime value goes up and you can spend more on clicks. I've a few campaigns where the CPC is too high based on just the sales of the product that I receive, and in fact I lose money on one of them, however, I have backend sales that make the campaigns profitable. Thing is, are you making *any* conversions? If so that's good news, because it means that it does work, but you just need some tweaking. If you haven't made *any* sales, then either the marketplace isn't right for you, or you need to scrap what you've done and start afresh. H
i have to be in the top 3 and yea, i make sales, google is my main source of customers, our client list is small, so not much of repeat busness or referral. So new customers are a must, and most of them are Google customers. this is an everage day for few of the ad groups. i've redone them completly few days ago, trying a different layout.. clicks---impressions---CTR ad group 1 20------656------3.04% ad group 2 16------491------3.25% ad group 3 -7------175------4.00% ad group 4 -4------123------3.25%
Between 3% and 4% is acceptable. Have you run any split testing yet (at either Adwords ad text, or your landing page)? H
not sure what split test ads are. and i am profitable. basically, you dont go to my website and just buy something. we do a particular service; B2B, so when someone searches and visits the website all i need is a phone call, thats what i consider a sale. If they call not just visit a website, its a 80% sale after a phone call. one sale pays off 2 months of google adwords.
