I see a lot of auto post blogs around and I was wondering if that is legal to use others content like that?

not entirely, unless you link back and give them copyright notice in the post.

it's also rude, stealing other people's content just to profit it from it. we call them "splogs", spam (b)logs.

    depends on where you live.

it likely falls under fair use any way you cut it though-- "snippets" of copyrighted material are frequently legal.

in any case the worst case scenario is usually that you'd get a cease and desist... as long as you do so, you wouldn't have much to worry about.

You can do it as long as you have explicit permission to do so. Some places encourage you to syndicate their contents while others don't. So if you are not certain, remember to check back with the content owners about it.

even if they don't explicitly allow it there's a good chance using RSS is legal under fair use statutes.

definitely legal as long as you keep the links
keeping a link and making such a website is straight promotion to them, a user who reads complete article mite check out the link at the end, ratio could be like out of 10 at least 2-4 will check and thats free traffic to the site from where you have taken the stuff.

if both are to benefit from it then why not

a link may make it less likely to tick the owner off, but it wouldn't determine whether or not it's legal.

RSS is generally provided to track back a site from RSS readers.
If the website allows you to use it otherwise, then I don't think there's any harm unless you respect their guidelines and policies...
Linking back is always good. :)

I wouldn't worry much about it, but it isn't the most ethical thing(especially when u make$$$ from it)

my idea would be to code your autoblog to make it post so many words ending with... and a link to the content or rss.

If you're providing a link back to where the content originated from, you should be ok

What about if the auto poster posts the images hot linked from the original blog with a link back? Or are images not ok?

Ummm no, it's not legal and the fines are as high as $250 000 per violation.

You're taking someone's copyright material and reproducing it on your own site for your own financial gain.

Can I go to the Wall St Journal, copy all their articles and put a link at the bottom to make it legal? It's no different in this situation.

if he's talking about taking full articles, you're absolutely right.

if he's referring to just the rss feed, that's another story entirely-- and almost always will be legal according to US law, at least.

I was replying to tke71709 there, since he mentioned ripping off entire articles from wallstreetjournal.
