sub domain wild card HELP

    I currently have 123-reg vps hosting

    - WHM management system
    - Cpanel setup for my domain

    my website requires multiple sub domains and i want to just setup a wildcard sub domain.

    I have tried:

    - *.mydomain.com

    in the subdomain setup in cpanel but this is not working on its own.

    I would appreciate any suggestions/help please as i am new to WHM.

    has the wild card ssl been purchased? does the domain have a dedicated IP? has the SSL been configured?
