LOL it depends on alot of things but first, would you like to make websites or programs. If you choose websites then you should choose PHP otherwise choose JAVA!

PHP and Java can not be compared.
PHP is easier for beginner.. you wont regret to learn that
Learning Java is good too, especially if you like to build devices (pc, mobile, ..) applications. Some new platform now has their own programming platform. It will be easier to learn if you know the basic of java.

Actually, learning programming (the process of writing programs, not a language to do it in) is best for a beginner. Start with Algorithms + Data Structures.pdf

Java is not "world wide web language". Javascript (which is a web language) and Java are totally different languages.

Make hello world program in both and see which one you find easier. Secondly as other forum members have said it also depends on what you are trying to make, making websites in PHP is far easier than using jee, and if you are planning to make desktop app using PHP then best of luck.

PHP is good for "simple" (can be used for advanced too) web projects. While Java is good for more advanced features, especially when it comes to security.

No language is secure - security depends on the programmer writing the program. Anyone can write a very secure PHP program and a Java program with loads of security holes.

I agree Java is not used on for the web for small application its more for enterprise applications. But I would still start off by learning Java and get a good understanding of OOP and then move to PHP it would help you code better.
