you got it right it is a big risk cause google is a dominating traffic source and the other sources (yahoo/bing) just suck
Errh, buddy, there is no one-size-fits all recovery strategy. What you can do is, first, analyze fully a website and make sure it was really Penguin, because it could have been something else. Second, try changing your current anchor texts to make them more natural looking. Some of them should be plain URLs, some should be like "click here" or "this post/website". They say that keyword anchor texts are a big Penguin trigger. Hope your site comes backs!
Take a look at the quality of your links and make sure the text and anchor looks natural. It will take some time after you've fully looked through your website.

Basically sites were affected by Penguin because of the adds displayed on it many of the sites had more that needed add so they were affected so if you have any kind of stuff like this then align the adds as per.
I use a blog network and almost all of my posts that where on the 1st page have sunk....hmmm....might have to start doing things Googles way....makes sense doesn't it?
Still not recovered. The affected site are still in a bad position for me and I have started again from the beginning. No copy, no bad links!
Most of the sites affected by the Penguin update are the one's with a lot of spammy links, who have spammed their way up in the search engines. So I suggest, start getting rid of your spammy links, do ethical link building, do it the right way and most of all be patient.
As usual normal tips we should be follow if site penalize by penguin update... 1. Don't try to make more anchor text with same keywords, try some branding keywords for your business too 2. Use fresh and unique content 3. Try to get backlinks from authority websites 4. Remove all unrelated links on your website. 5. Only obtain backlinks by guest posting on relevant sites or by providing great content. 6. Try and get links to your site with different anchor texts. 7. Try and get links to your site with different anchor texts. 8. Try and include only contextual links.
First lineup your effecting caus under penguin and they if its easy try to recover otherwise better to move up for new domain and new website .
Internal links within my site esp. footnote links were causing me problems. I have removed them and seen some improvement.
This is news to me, are you sure? What about internal links from the content itself IF the page being referred to is relevant to the post?
If your site is affected by the Google penguin algorithm then the best way to recover your site is that you have to follow the basic algorithm of the Google penguin like content should not be in copy scape and unique and don't do the over optimization of your site.
