a PR4 can outrank a PR7 site. it happens all the time.

pagerank has nothing to do with any engines apart from google.

even in google, what you're seeing is more about correlation than it is causation. what you see on your toolbar has nothing to do with how powerful google considers your site.

focus on quality incoming links with the right anchor text and your rankings will improve. don't worry about PR.

it can be an indicator of quality but it's by no means the only measure of quality.

Give all sites a chance and don't just focus on PR. Remember, all sites had a PR0 at some point.

The two will be strongly related but it shouldn't be looked at as a rule.

PageRank is all about inbound links and inbound links is one of many factors that influence search engine results.

PR is more like a tie-breaker if all else are equal. It does not mean to search engines besides google.

I agree completely on this. I have been building inbound links with relevant (and varied) anchor text, and it has paid off big time in the Search Engine results, with 21 keyword phrases (some very competitive) currently on Google's first page.

Just this week I was talking about anchor text to a computer professional (MIT graduate, 40 years' experience in the computer field). I told him that I had heard that anchor text in an incoming link is counted by the search engines as if that text occurred on the destination page itself. He said that it's better than that — that Google gives that inbound anchor text greater weight than if that same text simply occurred on the destination page.

My experience in dramatically rising SERPs results from aggressive link building with good anchor text confirms what he said.

PageRank and ranking in search engine is not related. However, Pagerank depends on incoming link and incoming link is the one big-factor in serps ranking so you should pay attention to incoming link instead of PR, it's not important how much PR you got, only good results in SE's you wanted.

not sure to what extent I agree with the anchor text / terms on page deal. interesting theory, but it certainly doesn't seem like it's that way to me... at least yet, thankfully. :)

Well, of course. The George Bush and miserable failure thing is a good proof of that.

Pretty sure there isn't any miserable failure keyword in the George Bush's bio in the whitehouse site.

I agree. Having a high PR does not mean that you’ll be high in SERPs. Websites that are highly optimized (SEO) for particular keywords CAN OUTRANK sites that are less optimized but have higher PR. This is also because PR does not factor in your website’s keywords or phrases.

PR4 can absolutely outrank PR7 sites. PR is just all about the number of who links to you while ranking in SERP's is about keyword densed content, relevant inbound links, meta tags and a lot of other factors. So this means that PR is just like a part of SERP rankings.

Quality inbound links = high PR (only relevant for google) that's all it comes down to really.
