I mainly write articles for my backlinks and do some forum blog commenting. How can I make these articles and links as unique as possible because I think I have been penalized? Also my niche is small or more to the point the content to write is very limited since its a product.

As natural backlinks are built over-time, by your users, you need to ensure your website is useful to them, has good related content and then your readers/visitors will share/spread your website through the internet, this is what builds natural backlink over time.

Well, the term natural would mean that it is not yourself linking at your own site, this would be artificial. Now you can bend the words and make believe that natural means artificial, but then we can say anything really nothing matters.. But I understand totally since you make it a business of selling links (natural links I guess you call them) so at some point you start to breath and kind of believe your own lies. I did the same for my multi users sites. I made the pages, wrote "build backlinks & share ad revenue" and so I was like encouraging this way when really myself I don't believe in working for other sites (well except forums) and in the ad revenue sharing sites if I'm not the webmaster of the site.
Is it possible that you make post that explore individual characteristics of the product your site is about? For instance if your site is about a soccer shoe, can you make post about each of the features of the shoe by helping people learn more about these features in general?

If you use SM, YouTube, PR and a little article marketing without syndication, just publication, perhaps start your own affiliate program (e.g. ClickBank) then: you will have attracted attention to your site and there will be people linking to you voluntarily or mentioning your URL in forums! It did work for me, even with smaller sites with surprising results... I know that one thing that particularly attractions editorial links, blog news links is if you publish "interesting" news, facts on your site/blog.
I think internal linking is the best way to create natural backlinks. Thus it is indeed possible to have backlinks from your own blog or well-intralinked website!

You can start from the social bookmarking websites with Highest PR.Google likes their links and they are far away from SPAM.After that you should put some links in youtube videos..but don't overdo it.And then after all that is done,just add some quality links manually to high pr blogs related to your website's niche.You can use google alerts to find such blogs easily.
