Using PPC only vs. creating a site

Discussion in 'ClickBank' started by ajvan, Nov 24, 2006.

I'm a newbie to Clickbank, and something I hear mentioned a lot is creating a site to promote a product, rather than linking directly to the official pitch page from a PPC service.

In the last couple months, I've come out ahead (moderately) by promoting a CB product using only Adwords, no site... but I'm wondering what the benefits of creating a site are. When would you recommend making an affiliate site as opposed to using only PPC? Any thoughts?

A landing page can make the campaign either better or worse. A good landing page that is designed well can pre-sell the offer. You basically warm the visitor up with your recommendation before they link to the sales page.

A bad landing page (that is designed poorly or where you try to sell and not pre-sell) can make the visitor leave. The best thing to do is do a test and see what converts better.

I have experimented with just using ppc with re-directs. Hard to do with google, but I use Yahoo with moderate success.

I am in-process of taking one of the sites and actually building it up a bit with articles, reviews, recommendations etc.

PPC is ok, but I think in the long haul building a page will be better, and you can use it to promote more than one product, and YOU your customers, plus with an opt-in you can get their emails to promote more down the road.

    Just my opinion.

Why not do both? You can use natural SEO and PPC (and various other methonds) to drive traffic to an opt-in page. You get the best of all worlds.

There is one benefit if you're good at writing basic copy:
You can build a "review" type site of products.

Think about it, when you buy anything on the net where
several products compete for your money, where do you
turn to for 'an objective' recommendation?

That's the good thing about Amazon too, you can read actual
user reviews, what helps a lot making a decision regarding the
actual and true quality of a product.

So this is something the 'pitch fest' page of the product itself
cannot produce convincingly. All their '3-rd party testimonies' that
are on-page are biased, everyone knows that except total newbies.

That's where the 'review site' comes in and makes its money.
For affilate products there is nothing better. Except sometimes
a direct link in case it goes to ra eally well written original sales page.

I agree with Bali...it's all about pre-selling and warming the visitor up.

Thanks for the great advice, Bali!

Does anyone have tips on how to go about creating an affiliate site? I'm assuming you start by registering a good multi-purpose domain name...but where do you go from there? What tools do you use to build your pages, etc? Any thoughts?

Solid advice. You are much better off if you can give free valuable information in exchange for their email address. This way you can continue to communicate with them and they get to know that you have their best interests in mind when you make a recommendation.
