Perhaps you should try looking at commentators above the age of 21 who have more than a high school degree. They use big words, so probably better to stick with junior.

Normally, when a guy that close to your face gives you a look like that, physical violence is moments away. Pathetic for a sitting president.

Looks to me that he's looking over Romney's shoulder at someone behind him, probably the host/adjudicator lady? Looks like he's smirking to me. Probably the "I got him there" look.

He looks like he just said "I accomplish stuff, you got nothin' but lies"... :)

I finally pulled the trigger this weekend and and bought myself a plug in Prius. With nearly $10k government subsidies(taxpayer dollars), rebates, a special California state sticker permitting me to drive in the carpool lane with only one person, and 100%, zero interest financing, and 5$ a gallon for gas in California, I'm quite literally making money from the taxpayers by driving the vehicle. Did I mention the fine folks at the State of California give me a break on my electric bill since I charge my car at night? I now pay dramatically less overall on electricity than before the car, despite the fact I charge a vehicle at night.

As I cruise down the carpool lane driving solo in my taxpayer subsidized car, I look out at the many people I pass who are stuck in gridlock traffic. Many are the working poor struggling to make it to their various part time jobs after losing a previously good paying job to this recession, or perhaps the flood of illegal immigrants willing to work for less. As they lose their time in traffic, and their money on gas, I'm sure many are thinking about how to pay their rent after having recently lost their house.

When they get home to their apartments, they notice the cost of food, and everything else is on the rise, because moving products to a grocery store, or any other store, requires the use of gasoline, and they don't make battery powered, government subsidized 18 wheelers.

I smile to myself with the smug smile that only a liberal can feel, knowing my president and I are doing our small part to save this planet. I wonder with amazement at the fact many if not most of those same working poor I pass will try their hardest to get this president reelected. Its a shame most of them cant afford the payment on a "clean energy" car, but at least they are doing their part for the environment by voting for Obama.

Now there is something you don't see often in California.

Always been interested in environmentally friendly stuff so I had a look at this. Can't quite marry up your claim of $10,000 taxpayer dollars though. I did find this:

"This is a $32,000 car, though it’s eligible for a $2,500 federal tax credit. And there’s more: California owners not only get the HOV sticker but a $1,500 rebate through the Clean Vehicle Rebate Program."

Can't believe how cheap petrol is in California, only 5 bucks a gallon? Wow, just hit $7 here. We blame the Iran sanctions and continued uncertainty in that area.

Hard to believe it only gets 11 miles in electric mode, hardly seems worth the extra bucks upfront over other versions of the Prius. Great to see you doing something about the environment though.

You are half way there. Once you get through manufacturers rebate and California home green energy subsidies for having your house modified to charge the EV, you get much closer to 10.

The Chevy Volt, with a larger battery, qualifies for the 7500$ Federal rebate(before state and manufacturer rebates), but its out the door price starting at 44k, its off battery 37mpg, and it's buggy first year hybrid technology make it a poor choice, even if you can lump down the idea that Obama got US taxpayers to contribute 15 billion dollars towards its existence. At a starting price of 35k(got to include those pesky taxes and fees you know), the Prius simply makes better sense.

Financials aside, I'd rather buy a car built by hardworking Americans, which is why I bought a Toyota. I sold my gas guzzling expedition at full market value to some poor Obama supporter who couldn't afford a car that was cheap to own.

Regarding helping the environment, I can't take credit. As Obama's energy secretary said, “Somehow, we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe" to push clean energy. Under Obama, petrol prices are up 300%, so I guess we can say, mission accomplished.

BTW, I appreciate your applause for green energy and complete lack of empathy for the poor in America who bear the brunt of the costs.

You must be young, because when Clinton was President he scared the shit out of Europe. Clinton sent American troops into harm's way an average of once every nine weeks. And his foreign trade policy was predatory. Every time I traveled to Europe I heard people complaining about something Clinton just did to hurt their country. This was ignored in the U.S. papers because as a consequence the U.S. economy flourished.

Want proof? Remember Czechoslovakia? Europe's greatest failure in the modern age.

So, "bob", I ask you, is your knowledge based on any actual research first-hand research? Is it based on any actual experience? Or are you mindlessly repeating what you heard other people say?

You mean, ROMNEY accomplishes stuff. If not, I don't understand your last statement.

Not that interested in what happened in the past, anyone can "prove" any argument they want by snatching a period in history that suits. Interested in the here and now and the future.

Certainly I listen to other people's opinions but I can assure you I am my own man. - Bob

You appear to be the one shoving it down the poor of America's throat every time you leave the garage.

As usual, you missed the point. When the price of gas triples, it is our president shoving it down the throats of the poor. He is the guy with the stated agenda of higher gas prices and bankrupting the coal industry in the name of environmental salvation. He is the guy standing behind Islamist revolutions in the middle east. He is the guy projecting weakness and bending over for Iran. He is the guy who has issued 10% fewer federal drilling permits every year. He is the guy using his justice department to sue states drilling on land that doesn't require federal permits. He is the guy who blocked the keystone pipeline.

Our asshat of a president looks at 6$ a gallon gas in California and smiles because he knows he is driving the cost of commuting high enough to open wider demand for fuel efficient vehciles and he does not give a flying crap about the fact that more than 50% of Americans can't afford to buy those vehciles so they are saddled with thousands of dollars in new costs associated with the price of fuel. He doesn't care that his regressive fuel tax is hitting low income Americans after three long years of high unemployment and declining wages. The use of the carpool lane for these vehicles is an abortion brought to us by the geniuses who rule the Republik of California. Its just another way of spitting on the poor and telling them they don't matter.

AH well, there is an interesting theory doing the rounds that because of US sanctions whenever Iran says "Israel" the price of oil goes up and the sanctions don't hurt as much.
Good idea that - forcing gas guzzlers off the road, we did that years ago.
Good idea that - slowly cutting down the coal industry, we just introduced a carbon tax to lessen our reliability on coal.
Near as I can tell, the people in Mid East countries are having the occasional revolution - please respect the people they elect afterwards.
I thank the Pres for using sanctions against Iran rather than bullets - best for everybody.
Gees that gas price is escalating quick, up to 6 bucks a gallon already from 5 this morning.
Fuel efficient vehicles are the future, there's pain along the way but everyone gets there in the end. We are already there mostly.
Carpool lanes are ridiculous anyway, we're getting rid of them as they didn't do what they were supposed to do. Universally agreed that it's better not to have them.

We are not forcing gas guzzlers off the road. We are forcing the poor to drive them at three times the cost. Not sure why that hasn't set in with you yet.

Respect is earned, not given for free. If they torture their women and minorities as it appears they will, they will have neither my respect, nor the respect of most civilized people on this planet.

Gas is already at $6 a gallon in some places in California. Median prices are around 4.70 for regular,5.15 for premium.

Already there? Really? What type of MPG/KPL does the average Aussie vehicle get? How about your car?

By your logic, if you think Solar energy is the way of the future, it sounds like you would be perfectly fine with raising the cost of electricity to the point only the top 20% of Australians could pay for it, and forcing everyone either into the dark ages or into government subsidized solar panels. Why are liberals such retards, and why do they hate th

I'm guessing your universe ends within 40 miles of your house. Most Californians commute 40-80 miles daily on highways that, compared to Australia, would quite literally have you crapping yourself, based on quantity of vehicles on the road, number of lanes on the highway, and more than anything else the speed at which they move,

They'll learn to buy more fuel efficient cars.

Give us a freaking break - "as it appears they will" - they elected a government, leave them a bloody well alone. You can't install puppet governments in every country in the world. The world is supposed to be free and no one wants to be like you anyway. Get out of their heads and fix up your own appalling country.

Dunno, costs me $50.00 a month for fuel as I use public transport as much as possible. 4 cyl Elantra.

I love my solar panels, I get a credit each quarter and a cheque each year from the lecky provider. Courtesy of subsidies from State and Federal governments. I'm poor but I can see a good thing when it comes along.

Why did you buy a car that only gets 22 miles on electric then? Ever driven in Thailand or Indonesia? - that's where you crap yourself. Mind you, my darling had to hand over the keys after a half hour stint in England because of their roads. Shaking like a leaf, she was. Tiny little lanesways built for horses centuries ago, driving on the footpath to pass cars, just wasn't her forte. Must go and enjoy the sunshine now:cool:

Is that like learning to play in the NBA when your 4'10"? Cute.

Palestine elected a government. Nazi Germany elected a government. Is that supposed to be some statement of merit? For the record, only the Egyptians have elected a government out of all the freshly revolutionized Arab states, and even it's elected government may prove to be quite bad.

As opposed to who? Afghanistan? Iraq? Spain? Greece? Get out your smelling salts and read a history book.

So you are a polluter by California standards. Thanks for clarifying how advanced you are.

Both, and a variety of other places as well, including your part of Australia. When you get a chance to pull into morning traffic on a 6 lane highway with thousands of cars every mile, all of which are moving at 85 mph approximately 30-40 feet from bumper to bumper, you'll develop a new appreciation for carpool lanes, wider freeways, and the impact of gas prices on people's lives.

We are something like 8 posts into this conversation, and you have yet to show even a little empathy for the impact of high gas prices on poor people's ability to survive in America. It might just be ignorance about how it truly impacts Americans, but based on your earlier comment, I think the truth lies in the idea you simply don't care. What a sad representative of such a great country. Pathetic.

No you didn't in fact Australia still has a huge number of V8s and road trains.

Your country survives solely due to raw material exports - you also have one of the highest HDIs on the planet , the fact that you're proud of that you're doing something that China did 5 years ago is worrying to say the least

    - Like Ghaddafi ?

Except those that could be at the receiving end of Iran's nukes.

In Europe we've been living with 8 dollars to a gallon for two years now and the prices are slowly crawling to 9$ per gallon. If I were you I'd buy a V12.

Alternatives fuels are the future , namely biodiesel , ethanol and hydrogen. The problem is that they can't exist if the only energy sources that we have left are coal and uranium.
